There is a new club in my city and i went there to ask if i
can dj there. I told then that i will play warp/rephlex
stuff and they want me to give them a "demo set" tomorrow
and i`m really nervous about that. Any good advices?

yeah it`s easy to say but when you see 3 people siting
3meters from you and watching every little thing you do you
become very nervous...and then it`s easy to fuck something
up...

Oh...why don't you just record a demo at home?

Ok... What do you spin then, vinyl or cd's? If you actually
have to appear at the club to do a set for them, I would
have a very confident attitude and just play some really
catchy tracks for them that is not too hard to mix. They pay
much less attention to what you do than you fear and if they
hire you you're audience will be a bunch of drunk or/and
druged people so they won't give a toss as long as you feed
them some funky shit... Watch out for the nerds tho!

I spin vinyl and i think that mixing Aphex Twin (or other
warp/rephlex stuff) is hard melody and tempo change 3or4
times per track . THX for advice

you'll be fine

For the demo just put the most crowd pleaseing tracks you
can think of and when you actually perform go wild =oD

Accept that you'll fuck up at some point and move on from
it. If they are such fucks that they will not make
allowances for your nervousness, then they do not deserve to
have you playing at their club.

So I have played my set!
They told me that technicaly it was ok BUT it was too
hard..:( fuck!!! thay prefer chillout stuuf and they told me
that stuff that i played was goood but too experimentral...I
really tried to play songs that are catchy and popular and
gentle (windowlicker, nannou , jurney ) but to them they
were too complex!! fuck! why all clubs prefer 120bpm
chillout shit? why can`t promote good music?

Ask them for another try and play good music then. I mean
you were playing tunes that where at least 5 years
old...come on...you could have done better than that.

Unlucky anyway.

Why'd they let you play if they didn't like that type of
music?

its simple, unfortunatly the masses arent attracted to it,
and that means less money for the club.
keep at it tho, why not start you own evening at a venue?
thats what i did...

No but a brand new club would want to be seen as modern and
trendy, and 5 year old IDM isn't really going to give that
image. You would have been better playing shitty more
commerical stuff to get yourself in there and then gradually
introduced the good stuff. :P
