Ignorance isn't really a good enough defence. In africa it is a common belief that if you get aids, you can get rid of it by "passing it on" to someone else. As a result you get people not only intentionally infecting hookers, but in some cases grabbing women off the street and raping them... |

and what about the myth in some parts of africa that the way to rid yourself of AIDS is to have sex with a virgin? kids are getting raped because there is no real information or enlightenment about this kind of thing. do they deserve it? id hardly describe aids sufferers as sociopaths. when was the last time anyone was hassled by someone with aids begging for sympathy? and when was the last time you got tested? oh, and as for apartheid being a good idea - stability security and order are usually the byproducts of oppressive states. take any logical way of ordering society to its logical conclusion & it becomes totalitarian. one throwaway example of this is the central theme of anthony burgess' clockwork orange. but im not going to discuss the finer points of that now. youre entitled to your own opinions. i just find some of them a little disappointing, thats all. im with you nacmat.. im leaving this nazi thread too. |

Anyone read one of the countless internet "humour" guides to online debate? They all include the point, "No online deabte is over until someone compares someone else in the conversation to Hitler or mentions the Nazi party." It's a pretty counter productive way to go about things simply using the "you're a nazi" card to get out of a debate. One of the internet's main benefits is that the relative anonymity it affords means that people speak their minds... it causes open dialogue which is how matters are resolved. Tarring someone as a Nazi because they have less liberal views than yourself is pretty fucking lame. If you want a serious discussion, grow up enough to be able to talk without getting so angry about someone not being afraid to be seen as non PC that you cease the conversation. If anyone had actually considered mine and Monoid' point rather than simply reacting in a knee jerk manner, you'd see we weren't saying apartheid was good. It was fucking appalling. However, in the immediate aftermath (it hasn't been over long enough for things to really get better) things are a lot worse. The same happened when the romans left Britain, we had the dark ages for 300 odd years. In the long run things are better for us, but at the time it must have seemed that it was awful that they left. - i don't think my reaction was knee-jerk. - the term "nazi" is often used in a flippant tongue in cheek way. - i have neither the time nor the inclination to read an internet "humour" guide on message board conversations. - im not angry. - im all grown up, thankyou. - i find overt political correctness to be utterly counter productive. - in my experience, the majority of people complaining about post-apartheid south africa are those that were held in favour while the regime was in force. - when reorganising a country's infrastructure, there are no quick-fix solutions. look on it as though it were a set of scales. if the weights at one end are removed, the scales dont reach equilibrium instantly. there is a period of unbalance & disorder while things stabilise. same as there will be in iraq for some time to come now the former system has been destroyed. - what did you get in your kinder egg? |
