no, you can download them as usual, as they are just .mp3
files.
just right click and choose "save target as".

ok. i don't want to be harsh, but i can't say there was a
lot i liked about any of them.
basically, it sounded like you had just used the default
samples in fruityloops, and with absolutely no modification
to said samples you constructed "beats", probably by
randomly clicking cells in the pattern editor.
once you had made a few of these patterns you layered them
together, as the track progessed you gradually layered more
and more to create some kind of climax.
i would comment on melody but there was none; the songs were
made entirely of the drum patterns i explained earlier.

I've decided to prolong my being awake to listen to your
music. Give me a bit and i'll get back to you.

offline big from lsg on 2003-11-30 17:08 [#00971836]

uhm, yes, it's not random beats though, but it ís made just
by a drumming program of 100k with just midi drums samples,
so i couldnt modify the samples or put melody in, it's just
beats
so the first track there is the second track i ever created
on my compu and the third my fourth, you should see some
progression. i was actually rewriting the last track but
after two weeks gave up, so i like the beginning and then it
gets a bit chaotic maybe. the second track isnt though,
that's supposed to be a hiphop beat (with toms over it that
made me think of miami vice) the first track is just fun,
but it does have some more complexity due to different
divided measures over eachother.
tnx for listening though

i dont know what to give to you i cant mail 'em or anything,
you should right click and save to disk. i can just say that
the 3rd track, nmbbsII is the loudest, the 2d, hipvice, the
most relaxed and the 1st the most fun
tnx for sacrificing sleep for me
it is just drum tracks as i said in the last post though

offline big from lsg on 2003-11-30 17:12 [#00971841]

hope you wont rip me off though and make millions with em

O.K I will divide what I have to say into good points, bad
points and suggestions.

Good Points:
= drum and beat work
= climax structure
= timing

Bad Points:
= Lack of tune or variation
= too fast in places
= too many different beats at once.

Suggestions:
It sounds to me that you may have rushed these songs, I
could only listen to 2 and 3 cos 1 didnt work but this is
what I thought from what I heard. I suggest you spend a
little more time on your tunes. I don't know what program
you are using but if it's stopping you from making any tune
then I suggest you get a new one immediately (FruityLoops
free from Kazaa). You have good timing with beats and you
have a good ear for a climax in a song. All you need to do
now is combine your beats with a good tune then you will be
on your way to making awsome music. Hope this helps you.

it...

yes, thanks, that's very good comment sir! i didnt really
want people to have to much idea about the tracks on
beforehand, but i should have been more clear on the fact
that it's just drums. it was a nice experience for me doing
this because i play guitar, and a bit of piano, so normally
i'm mostly melody. i assumed furthermore that people were
aware of the fact that i have this 'music programs?'-thread
running in which i explain that im just starting with
electronic music, and im asking what to get.
on your points:
i think the drum samples sound nice too, considering the
program is 100k and the files of the tracks less than that.
climax structure is something i have experience with in
writing guitar music (which ill upload too someday). timing
too, i guess. still im glad and flattered you thought those
good points.
lack of tune and variation i did everything i could about,
given my limitations, i couldnt make more, at this point,
out of it though.
i presume the last two points, too fast and too many beats
is mainly on the last track: i started to rewrite that one
but just couldnt get it finished, i totally went mad with
the screwing around with those little dots, going deaf from
the infinite looped measure. also i started hating that
track to it's guts and decided to keep with some freshly
made track, which sounded more fun, but way less crafty, i
think all those beats dont really go very could together,
but you cant hear that anyway due to a overload of them,
it's just some drill-pastiche, i guess
the first track is altogether not so special, and it doesnt
download as i understand?

i want to especially thank my fans for listening to me. i
hope you all will keep listening to on my future musical
explorations.
(especially since it isnt really my best track there and i
think it doesnt even work, but ill check that)

Hey, just drums can sound really funky. Plastikman's old
stuff is really basic but builds and builds very nicely.

I think those are Roland 707 sounds, which I dislike most of
the time, so I imdiately felt like "oh no..." but halfway
through track 1 I thought you did some nice things with it.

I'd say this: Get a raped copy of the program Reason and
start getting serious.
If you buy it, as opposed to downloading it, you should try
to build up your own sample library and toss the sample cd's
in the lake.

Sort all your sounds into huge categories like "Drums &
Percussion" & "Melodic sounds" and so on... Then create
sub-categories like "Bassdrums" "Fucked up percussion"
"Breaks" "Music loops" and so on...
It takes a lot of time and patience to find good stuff to
cut/sample from, and often you might only use it once, but
it's very good to keep track of your stuff because if you're
serious about electronic music your library of sounds WILL
grow.

Start learning about post processing of your tracks, it can
make a huge difference. Mastering and mixing is something a
really don't have a good grasp on but basic EQ and
compression knowledge is a must. If you have a large HD, try
to keep a non-processed copy of your tracks if possible - I
always tended to use too much compression in the beginning.

Also try to get your hands on Cool Edit Pro 2 or 1.3, it'll
make sampling and editing of your samples very easy.

Good luck!

thanks man! i will get reason 2.5 im a bit worried i cant
use it on my mac with just 64 mb memory though, as from
tomorrow i will be able to use a pc with, i hope, more ram.
sampling does sound like a load of work, where do you sample
from then? cd's, a microphone on a building site, or do you
cut up and modify exiting samples?
i thought that first beat sounded good to, only i couldnt
see in which division level i had made the diffent layers so
i just couldnt sync beats.
cool you (possibly) identified the samples, i thought they
were standard midi, or is it that anyway? i thought it so
strange the sidekick (my fav) sounded mushy and not clicky
anymore at 128k compression. i will keep the original aiff,
and the original virtual drummer files (since, again, those
are less then 100 k, geegh)

anyway, I'm not that interested in hearing beat-tracks -
I'll give a listen when you've made some full tracks.

yes it doesnt run to well, maybe with netscape it's better
or something, with me it freaks up once in a while too. i
did try to make catchy things making up for melody, but i do
recommend you wait for full tracks, im tired already
thinking about the effort im gonna have to put in getting
and learning those new programs, or is it because it's past
three?

anywho, im really curious as to what you use for programs
qrter, reason?

I use SoundForge 7.0 and Nuendo (I think 2.0 but I'm not
sure). Nuendo is much like Cubase - it is made by Steinberg
too.

I use SF mainly for making sounds and post-production stuff.
Nuendo is for the sequencing and also a lot of plugin-stuff.

i think it has something to do with the fact i mailt like
130 people about it
im at two, with the one same track, in those two charts
still, not much reply though, so i guess i've minimized my
audience for the future, i thought i'd made it pretty clear
it's just fun. people dont reply in general is my experience
anyway.

still: i wished qrter would listen with his expert
ears :-)

here's the stats im still astonished by:
