heres what i get out of the movie:

1. Teddy uses Leonard to get the money from Jimmy

2. Natalie uses Leonard to get Teddy to avenge Jimmy's
death

3. Leonards wife gets killed and raped by 2 crooks. one gets
killed the other eventually gets caught afterwards by
Leonard and Teddy.

4. Afterwards Teddy uses Leonards mental illness to pin it
on what i said in number 1

now i'm not definitely sure this is how its suppose to go,
but this makes sense to me

I thought Leonard killed his wife.

my view:
Leonard killed his wife.
the "remember sammy jenkins" stuff? it's all leonard. his
fractured memory has led him to create this "sammy jenkins"
character, who in leonard's memory did what leonard actually
did (killed his wife).
teddy uses leonard for all of his dirty work, the film only
tells us of one job (killing jimmy) however i get the
impression that this has been going on for a long time.

but the killing by Sammy Jenkins was of a completely
different order, then.

if I remember correctly, Sammy's wife used Sammy to be
killed by him. there was no intention on the part of Sammy
to do so.

the killing of Leonards wife looked a lot more violent,
which would mean the killer would have to be more active
than someone in Leonard's situation.

I believe he found the killer of his wife quite quickly and
since then has been used by Jimmy to kill others.

i thought that was a bit odd too, and maybe he really had no
control of his ailment. but then if thats true, that he
created this whole sammy jenkins story to cover up the fact
he killed his own wife.

then how did the crooks and the fact his wife got strangled
and the police report got created. that doesnt make sense if
he did kill his wife, no?

good movie.

horsefactory's description is what i've always thought, too.
but i'll have to watch the movie again to answer some of the
questions brought up here about the police report, etc.

qrter: sammy jenkins was not real. leonard killed his wife
in the way that he imagined sammy to kill his.

i think that theory is weak, when they said that at the end
of the film. i had a hard time swallowing that because of
the creaton of the police report. i believe teddy just made
him believe that so he hides the fact he's been using him
for so long

where did that police report come from, how did he hurt his
head... if you create sammy as a figment of his imagination
you create more questions which divert from the story at
hand.

In the scene where Leonard is describing Sammy in the mental
institution, there's a split second where Sammy's face is
replaced by Leonard's. Sammy isn't real. Leonard = Sammy.

Its true, you see Sammy sitting in the mental hospital, then
when the doctor walks in front of sammy, sammy is replaced
by Leonard sitting in the same chair. They only show him for
about half a second then the scene cuts.

all pretty self evident..... I thought it was easy to figure
out...... now pls let me get back to trying to figure out
"Lost Highway" for the 5th year in a row.....

yep, thats true, but that is no evidence.
it can simply be Leonard identifying himself with Sammy.

it raises questions, but certainly does not answer any.

im to lazy for this stuff, but did figure it out the last
time i saw it...
i bet you saw it on tv. it's 25 months, if im correct, after
the release it can be shown, maybe that's a myth, but it
pretty much works out though. in holland for most movies
it's earlier because movies get out later. interesting?

no I saw it at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam,
a few years ago.

Christopher Nolan was there to answer questions from us, the
public, too.

haha,
i posed the question to childrentalking actually: i was
struck that suddenly two people started about it when
generally talking aboutt movies. i figured out that the fact
that it had been on tv two times the last two weeks, prolly
had something to do with that.
interesting to know that it was on iffr though. after going
there a few years i became ever more under the impression
that the movies they showed there could be pretty crappy.
itchy the killer was sold out 2 years ago, that's funny

if leonard wasn't sammy then how do you explain the scenes
of leonard giving his wife penicillin shots? just
coincidence that both their wives had diabetes? or am i
missing something?
