do you know of any good progs of this kind? or probably
some sdk's for delphi or cbuilder?

Unlike generative graphical art, generative sounds tend to
be pretty gash on their own (unless you mean in the sense of
"writing" something in Csound etc.)

i've written some apps to create images based on some
algorithms. and also some apps to create music the same way.
needless to say, the graphics were way better than the
sounds. so probably different rules apply. i just need
something to see how other people have done it so i can do
something on my own.

i tried csound in the past but didn't like it. but the
concept is neat and i'm trying do write something similar
but in the form of an sdk for delphi. i just need some info
to carry on.

Yeah generative graphical art is excellent, I'm doing the
main part of my degree on it. Sorry can't help with the
delphi stuff- I stopped using delphi about 6/7 years ago :)

try Basic instead

I know a prg called chaos synth based on the Game of
Life...

BTW, what kind of 'parameters' do you want to generate ;
wether it's beat programming or synth textures you can use a
wide range of different techniques like fractal modelling or
feedback-based generation (mostly for noise).

i said retro, not ancient.

currently i have oscillators library. theoretically an
infinite number of oscillators can be linked in ways to
modulate each others amplitude and frequency. some very
wicked sounds come out. i'm working on some more advanced
envelopes (modulation doesn't do all i want). but i mostly
just need some alogrithms to create sequences.

Yeah but sequences of what ?
Your osc. have a frequency, phase and shape parameters and
you want to 'randomize' all of this ? IMO it can only sound
shit if you don't find some kind of constrains to apply to
your 'sequence'.

my terminology may not be correct, i'm not an expert. i
meant tonal sequences. sequences of notes. nothing random
though. some randomization may be applied but only after
heavy restrictions on the output.

Good ! that was what I wanna hear from you. No seriously too
many people just don't make the difference between
generative and randomized. Totally different aesthetics of
sounds - different like autechre vs merzbow.

Now you, all I can tell you is trying to learn languages
like MAX/MSP or Csound (even if you don't like it it's the
only way to go beyond the VSTi + presets + turn the knobs =
experiment paradigm)

mathematical oscillators sound shit.

my 2 cents

Supercollider is good too (mac only though), but just for
making sounds for tracks- I wouldn't try to do a whole track
in it.

ceri jc - supercollider only really gets good when u start
making trax in it!!! or at least sections of tracks... look
at the Pattern classes.

interesting things:
symbollic composer (mac,winxp?)
also
keykit (mac,win,linux)
sseyo koan (mac,winxp)
cycling 74's M sequencer

theres another one i cant remember.
