I need to submit a proposal tonight for my class entitled "Media, Society, and the Arts."
We've studied everything from renaissance painting, to magazine advertising, to pornography on the net. I probably want to do something technology related. Basically something having to do with art's role in society (could be gender/race/class issues), but I probably want to discuss it on digital terms.
Anyone have any serious ideas?

Does charging a fee for access to art forms on the internet limit it's scope, availablity or appeal to people.
Does the modern media accurately reflect society or actively steer society when it comes to appreciation of art?
Could monkey's be any more funny??? I doubt it, but discuss...

you could probably talk about cyberculture & it's affect on society. maybe compare it to ten years ago when the internet was still in it's early phase as a public service?

Probably more how technology has influenced art's role in society.
I would like to talk about cyberculture I just want to write something that's not b.s. I want to talk about e-communities and stuff but I don't think moderating a message board gives me much authority on that topic. I need to find a site with some good resources maybe...

there is a book called reinventing comics by scott mcloud that actually has alot to do with your topic, although it may be a little broad.

i mean, people probably have written dissertations just barely scraping what you're asking. you need to narrow it down and if you have time go to your library and do some research. Professors always like sources.

its due in three weeks or so. It's not that serious, 4-7 pages double spaced. I just waited until the very last minute to make my proposal...
I know i need to narrow it down that's what i'm trying to figure out.
zaphod i'll check that out now

one idea...with the advent of the internet society's exposure to different mediums of expression have increased ad infinitum, therefore discuss how this exposure has affected society (i.e. in your opinion negatively or positively). of course your opinion should have some weight to it. look for journal articles pertaining to these ideas and based on what you find defend your argument.
