I'm thinking of getting this for the ps2, either this and/or FFX2. Anyone have this game or read any reviews that could shead some light on the new PoP?

i was wondering about this too. i used to play the old DOS version of prince of persia a lot in the early '90s. it was really a lot of fun and an update of that could potentially be one of my favorite games. i'm getting myself a PS2 for christmas after having been out of the "games" scene since '94 with my SNES. anyone want to compile a list of PS2 games i should check into? my favorites are stuff like donkey kong country series, mortal kombat 2, nba jam, super mario series. i already got the GTA double pack and plan to get some old stuff like resident evil (which one should i get?)
sorry to get so off-topic.. but i know a lot of you are game nerds so give me some advice

It's INCREDIBLE. Among the best 2D to 3D transitions ever. It's a bit easy though... I've never been able to beat the original Prince of Persia but this one isn't tough, aimed more at casual fans. Still awesome though. I'm definitely getting it for Christmas. Jaw dropping graphics and you can do a million little acrobatic moves and techniques. I played the Xbox version, I heard the other ones aren't as pretty.
Travis- PS2 games to get-
Metal Gear Solid 2- feels like an old school game with new school graphics and a great story. Safest bet.
ICO- really atmospheric and ambient exploration game, nothing else like it.
Resident Evil- Code Veronica- I'd recommend REmake and Resident Evil Zero over this... maybe the best looking games eve... but they're for Gamecube. This one is great too, the longest and probably hardest.
Castlevania- Lament of Innocence- I just got this the other day and it isn't perfect, but it's ludicrously fun, it's 3-D but it feels just like a 2D game, full of action. I don't know if you've played Symphony of the Night (one of the best games ever made), but this game feels like that, great blend of action and exploration. Great music and Gothic atmosphere.
Final Fantasy X- d'uh. Haters don't like it as much as 6 and 7, but fuck them, they don't know what they're on about.
Devil May Cry- fun action game with some RPG/adventure elements... ultra stylish but it's got substance.
Splinter Cell- I think this game is incredible, but you really have to like spying and sneaking and trial-and-error gameplay, it gets insanely hard sometimes. Nothing like those games you listed but worth trying.
Silent Hill 2-3- must have, some of the moodiest games ever made and pretty much a no-brainer if you like Resident Evil 3. And ambient soundtracks that are right up there with SAW2.
Half-Life- generally considered one of the best first-person games ever, so if you haven't played it for PC you can get it for PS2 for peanuts and it's worth every penny.
NBA Street- b

NBA Street- because you like NBA Jam. Excellent game.
Dozens of others. And there's Mario/DK platform games like Rachet and Clank, Jak, but I'm not into them.
It sounds like maybe you'd like Gamecube better though. That's the more old school of the platforms... or maybe even Gameboy Advance. Even though it's handheld, it has just as many 5-star games.

I thought it was pretty disapointing. Most of the moves and weapons are style over substance, look cool but have no use. And the bosses were completely helpless. The game was just way too short and easy. Maybe I expected too much, it's still OK.

thanks jay! i should've known you'd reply in this topic and help me out. the PS2 is definite as i want something that is more popular (and thus compatible w/ other people's game collection), going to stick around (gamecube is showing signs of trouble), and plays dvd's (does gamecube do that? i'm not sure).
is NBA Street (haven't heard of this..) better than the new version of NBA Jam?
another game i forgot to mention was the CD-ROM game Quake from '96, i loved that game

nba street gets old after like 15 minutes, i wouldnt get it. resident evil code veronica is good but i dont know, resident evil usually gets obsolete by the time the next one comes out. res evil 4 will blow the others away. after i beat re games, i never play them again but theyre fun while they last.
devil may cry has little substance, its ALL flashiness, its actually pretty boring after a while too. resident evil is way better i think.

i beat the original :p took me quite a while though.
Games these days are generally shit. Back in the day, they were fucking hard to finish, now you can do it in like, 3 days max. Its a shame. Fortunately though, you can play online with a lot of games, which adds to the value tenfold. I just bought manhunt on ps2, after i couldnt find a decent game for PC. Its good, but its not AMAZING. Nice and gory though
