so maybe i'm a complete idiot but i do have several port
scanning attacks listed on my firewall warning log, all from
xlt from 11/19

unfortunately xlt was then automatically put on the ban list
and i couldn't connect any more. i just found out what
happened..

anyone else?

these are dangerous times... and this is a dangerous
place...

i think someone made a topic about this a couple of days
ago, they were using peer guardian and xlt was on the block
list, maybe you should email phob about it to let him know
that we are on to him :)

proxy port scans are not possible in this case.

what type of "scanning" were you seeing.

McAfee Firewall blocked an attempt to attack your machine
using a "Port Scan" attack. The remote address associated
with the traffic was 66.28.62.125. The remote port was 80
[HTTP]. The local port on your PC was 2229 [ephemeral].
The network adapter for the traffic was "WAN-Miniport
(IP)".

The binary data contained in the packet was "00 00 01 00 00
00 ce 24 20 00 01 00 08 00 45 00 05 8c 57 a7 40 00 31 06 1a
ec 42 1c 3e 7d 80 83 d0 bc 00 50 08 b5 ef 07 5d fe d7 c1 88
85 50 10 25 62 18 f3 00 00 48 54 54 50 2f 31 2e 31 20 32 ".

A little program that will prevent companies like RIAA and
MPAA etc. from scanning your pc.

It works with all the P2P programs

I've got it running for 2 weeks now and have had 2 visits
from the RIAA , but the program rejected them.

It has a world of IPs and whatnot

"Successfully loaded 82746575 IPs from 1341 profiles."

What if peer guardian was made by the FBI? [insert dramatic
pause]

i wonder what that binary data means, and why is hexadecimal
data being called binary data?

The RIAA gets you through your ISP- that was what the
landmark Verizon case was about- The RIAA traces you to
your IP and your IP has to give you up- there is no
software that is gonna let you be anonymus to your IP and
still be able to access the internet.

The legal stuff only applies to the US, you foreigners can
still steal all you want, no?

Downloading music is or will be illegal here. The police
won't spend much time hunting down people who commit this
crime though. They barely have resources to keep up with the
local Polish maffia downstairs from my place.

godataloss, you are wrong. proxies (or multiple proxies :p
) easily overcome this issue.

Tracing me through 8 different proxies isn't easy.

port scanning doesn't neccessarily relate to hacker
activity. whenever you connect to an irc server, the irc
server performs a port scan on your machine. port scanning
is quite common

if you've got a good firewall, port scanning is nothing to
worry about, unless of course you see thousands of attempts
towards the same port during the day..

No, that's not a portscan. It's a HTTP get reply. Your
firewall is extremely broken.
