prejudice against (fear or dislike of) homosexual people and homosexuality
According to an educational norwegian university textbook for nurses, homophobics are very often homosexuals themselves, but they distance themselves from homosexual people by being predjudice towards them, because they are afraid of their own sexuality.
I'm not saying all homophobics are homosexuals, but people who are afraid of their own homosexuality often end up as being "heterosexual" (or whatever) with homofobic tendencies.
Any thoughts?

I read in some report that 80% of people who engage in gay bashing (I'm refering to the practice of kicking the shit out of gay people, not "disliking" them here) are latent homosexuals themselves.

i really can't always handle the attitude some homosexual people have, but it does by no way mean i'm homosexual... so i somewhat disagree...
It's not that i don't accept them, it's just i don't like that attitude...

It's just classic self projection really. Homophobes piss me off with their hypocrisy. They love to watch two women getting it on but if you asked them if it was alright for two men to do the same then they'd pronounce it disgusting. Where's the fucking sense there? My boss is a fucking homophobe and I've stopped him kicking of about it in front of me by telling him it offends me as I have gay friends. I don't think he realises that being gay is more than just butt fucking. His argument is always:
Him:"The penis was not meant to penetrate the anus."
Me:"So Lesbians are OK then?"
Him: "No they're also an act of defiance against God."
Is goes one. As I said. He's stopped now.

there's a difference between disliking in general and having a phobia about it.
I dislike spiders, but I'm not archnophobic. I think phobia in general goes way beyond the state of not liking a particular thing.
I guess the term "dislike" is not adequate when it comes to phobia and the definition of such

There are female homaphobs out there but I havent met any yet. Males there are gaggles of !

what i dont understand is- if someone has a phobia then its a fear that must be overcome but people dont judge you...but if its homophobia then people think you hate gays, when phobia means something else, surely hating gays isnt the same as having a fear of them?

(some) homosexual people tend to have a specific 'homosexual' attitude, which i don't like. I accept it, but i don't like it. I hope that's ok.....
Let me rephrase it in my own words: Men behaving like women does freak me out a little. No offense!

i think it's difficult to generalize about individuals' reactions to homosexual behavior because there are so many different reactions and reasons why individuals might react a given way.
i don't think finding homosexual behavior distasteful is homophobic. in most people, sexuality is a very powerful experience, so a strong reaction, positive or negative, seems expected.
i think that fear or denial is the motivation behind some hatred. hatred is a defensive reaction, an emotional barrier between a person and the issues they fear confronting.
on a lighter note, most people who enjoy "watching two women get it on together" don't just enjoy "two women getting it on together." they enjoy "watching two *very attractive* women getting it on together." big difference...

What about the scientifical stuff that has started to show that being gay is somehow related to your genes? Doesn't that mean they can't help it...?

it cant be gene related because gay's can not reproduce with other gay's therefore their gay genes will be filtered out of the global gene pool, gay's are created by society and the environment that they grow up in

No I mean like ginger people... They don't have to have ginger parents. it can just be caused by some gene deformity or something... I also think that it is enhanced by society and environment in a lot of cases.

lol, i think even ginger people's hair colour is down to genes, even if their parents are not ginger they are still carrying the gene for ginger hair, even if it has been passed down from a very distant relative.

many people who probably are gay, but are in denial have still married and produced offspring. especially since society has been historically so unaccepting of homosexuals.
I imagine that it is a combination of environment, and of genetics. for example, a male who produces less testosterone might be less "manly." that combined, perhaps, with a childhood trauma like molestation or negative attention my females, might encourage homosexual behavior to develop. However, a person with high testosterone production might be less likely to be affected by environment.
For one thing, most of the homosexuals I have known tend to be smaller statured men, often very thin with very feminine features. Rarely are they the huge stocky body typesn like you see in the Highlander games or something.

You know the more older brothers a guy's got, the more chance he has of being gay - If you've got 7+ older brothers you've got a 50% chance of being homosexual!
Possibly it is some form of population control.
The only time you'll see me being homophobic is when I'm watching things like Will & Grace - Where everything they do and say and the way they act is ALL about their sexuality... Then again, I mind just as much (maybe even more) when straight people are forcing their sexuality in peoples faces 24/7...

I cannot stand homaphobic people...maybe im a homaphobaphobe ..hmm :S I dunno it's just wrong, and as __ said girls getting it off is allright to most guys ,but if two guys get of it's ''sick'' ...bleh...How dumb is that?
I have nothing against gay men. I have nothing against gay women.
Allthought i don't understand when a gay woman acts butch and dresses butch ...isnt the point of being gay to be attracted to someone for being a girl ?
and the same for femme guys.Except smetimes that's insulting to me as a girl...i don't know woman half as effeminate as some camp guys i know..it's kina offensive in a way...but it doesn't REALLY bother me - just confuses me...
One of my favourite people in the whole wide world ever and ever who i love so much is a gay male .Im bi myself, and a also have a very camp boyfriend, who prior to going out with me would frequently kiss loads of men - but isn't gay..I know many of my perfectly staight girl mates who always get off with each other just for show and stuff ..it's all fine.In fact last night me and my friend franki Kissed an awfull lot! (frankie= girl) This was with ''permission'' from my b.f...much encouragment infact, lol.
So i love 'em no matter what.
Then again don't take it that because someones gay i'll like 'em more or treat it like a novelty act like some woman very often do to gay men expecially - cause i hate my fair share of gay people ...just not because they're gay ..Just as i dont love my gay friends for being gay
egh i rambled my way thru that whole post
:S *totters off*

Homosexuality has been around since the Romans (atleast that's as far back as evidence can be found). Senators had their pageboys and so on. If you want to say "society" produces same-sex attraction, please explain.
