I love this. I've always wanted an entire album consisting
of drill n bass, and this is it. It's insane, funky,
seemingly "random" (though I think it's not) and very well
produced. It's not meant to be warm or beautiful! I enjoy it
coz it's immensely complex, and excitingly mad to listen to.

AWSOME
awsome awsome AWSOME

yeah its so fucking awsome..... definitely underrated IMO

ive never heard music like thsi by anyone.... its so hard
and dark and cold and yet alive and jazzy, amazing

i always forget how good it is

its really intense too.... some of hte most intense music i
know, it makes you want to blow up your own head, some of
his most hardcore stuff, and that means some of the most
hardcore music EVER

i dont get why people always talk about it as not up to
sctracth w/ his other albums.... the pitchfork review is
such infuriating bullshit, as they often are

yes exactly! such cold dark sounds, but he makes them dance
like some violend brutal amazing breakdancing robot... some
of the most technically impressive music ive ever heard....
so cerebral yet so visceral at the same time

its so intense its scary.. i think this is the album that
makes tom jenkinson appear most insane

i don't agree on "cold, dark" sounds really, to me cold is
autechre, and i don't like that at all...pusher just makes
wicked sounds, but very warm imo.

my friend described the sounds as "piercing" when i played
it for him
i thought thats a great description

another great description, from someone who likes
electronica who i played it for:

'its so like..... jam-packed!'

jam packed indeed
i love you squarepusher

very piercing at moments, but then it changes to melancholy
and calm sound in the next track, then againg to harsh
stuff...i just love how diversed this album is! probably one
of most complete albums...beside drukqs :)

I listened to this last when I was mowing the lawn. About 1
minute into My Red Hot Car is turned the mower off and sat
there on the tree stump for the entire album-span.
It's levels abouve enbything he did after that and had done
before. People prefering older SP to Go Plastic are simply
out of their element.

listening this to the first time in a while, and goddamn its
still as good as when i first started getting into drill n
bass and the such.

still the best there is when it comes to beat-oriented
music, tom is probably one of the most rhythmically inclined
human beings on earth.

The dying throws of a jungle hangover crescendo.
Freak my Sir william romsey acid roots. become
establishment.
Loads of money, access to that is going to ruin your sound.
postmodern sit down while I play.
Pusher ruled. It is all ceephax now.
Love it or hate it is it not fuckin marmite.
Pirate or radio 4 the choice is yours?

i really liked it when it first came out, but now i dunno.
it is his most "electronic" album and certainly one of his
most abstract releases. The absence of the bass was a basic
complaint for me, but you can't just ignore the complexity
of tracks like "my fucking sound" and the somber ambient
melody of "Tommib." Hell, Tommib was in LOst in Translation,
for fuck's sake.

Not my favorite SP release, but very solid.

It's a real mind-blower, man, a trip.

I think "I Wish You Could Talk" is probably the paragon for
shoegazer IDM.

He's so expert at what he does that his talent is almost
incomprehensibly advanced and refined.

It's a bit annoying that the trackmarkers are a few ms off
on this one. But there's nothing a little audioeditor can't
fix

To me, still his best work. The tracks groove so fucking
well, the album flows effortlessly, it's all just so
involving and well flowing. The production has such slick
ideas and executions without becoming overindulgent or
banal, it's just a really fucking primal, and, dare I say
it; "danceable" album.

i guess this is the album i have listened the most.... of
them all... probably a few dozen times too often... and i
would say it is my all time favorite cd, if i could still
listen to it that extensively..... hmm maybe i should
restart doing shrooms.

I think it's a brilliant album, probably his best. It's not
warm and fuzzy at all, but it is bloody exciting to listen
to, and it's got it's own kind of cold funk. I think it IS
emotional, only it doesn't convey emotion in the same way as
other music might. Those bits where the music gets so
intense (mainly tracks 7 and 9) that it ends up reduced to a
single screaming tone or noise; those are piercing every
emotion under the sun into your brain cogs.

else.

Funny that this thread should be revived as ive been
listening to this a lot lately. Although FMWT is easily my
favourite SQP album,
I'd gleefully pay the full retail price for 'the exploding
psychology' alone...one of tom's finest tracks and
definitely the best on this album.

has the right to children, and other stuff i forget. this
album blew me mind. still does.
