This is a disappointment.

Even if I account for its being a couple of years older than
me, and the prominence of MIDI, it still sounds worse (IMHO)
than Upstairs At Eric's.

Granted, there's definitely more intense sequencing in CW
than Upstairs. But there's something eminently timeless
about fat keyboard melodies, something that survives
repeated listens through sheer passion and energy, and to
me, that cannot be said of mathmatically precise, insanely
repetative vocoder samples, weirdly oscillating synth
figures and hollow drum programming (yes, yes, I know, pre -
acid tech, but still...)

With that said, you might I'm really trying to come down on
these guys. Not so.

Computer Love's lyrics are timely as ever, and only a hater
would not dance to It's More Fun To Compute. And the three -
part movement of Pocket Calculator, Numbers, and the
reprisal of Computer World is still perhaps among the best
sequencing in my album collection.

At the end of the day, I have other albums from this era
which I will probably turn to more.

And the protactedness of the record was a slight
misfortune.

7 / 10

Mmmm... 't' & 'a'...

...which reminds me of something missing from Computer
World: enough heartrending / lifting / breaking lyrics.

Back in 1981. Man, I can't even remember back that far...

... 'cause I wasn't quite born yet.

It actually turned out a decent value for under $10 CDN,
though.
