hi. i have one..
i like it. i mostly just use it as a midi controller with reason. but it's a pretty nice synth as well.
what are you looking for in a synth?

Isn't it a less featured MS2000? They sound good, Korg wouldn't put their name to it if it was crap.

yeah, it sounds quite good. i've heard it's similar to the ms2000.
the vocoder sounds great too.. the mic is a little silly tho. =)
the main drawbacks are: a) the keys are a bit small and toyish (but i like this =) b) only four voice polyphony
but again, it sounds awesome.

It's the same synth engine as the MS2000, repackaged in a smaller case with a different menu system.

It comes with a mic as standard & can be run of bateries (unlike the MS2000)
It looks a bit of a wimp next to the MS2000 & all those knobs tho

heres the thing. i dont know anything about synthesizers. the only thing i've used in the past is Fruity Loops Demo and i'm getting tired of making music with midi sfx.

If you can afford it, get a microkorg and have some fun, play around, all the vst/fruity etc things are okay if you want to be limited by some nerdy programmers view of creativity. Don't play in their playground, it's quite limmiting

The MS20 is exactly the synth I am after, I love the sounds those things can create & to tell you the truth it's just what I need for added inspiration (working inside the pc too much can numb the mind) & to give my tunes some extra character.
I've never heard any of your stuff Jivver, do you make music?

how much are they?
i've got a friend with an ms2000 and he loves it apart from its limited polyphony
but i'd prefer to have 2 nice sounds than 20 shite ones eh?

I do, the MS 20 is a beautifull synth! you can patch things but it's soo harsh! My main synth of choice is the EMS synthi, it's my weapon of choice..

software wise, the ppg is cool for arppegiating 80's things, the micro modular and arp2600 emulator is quite powerfull for individuality, If you want harsh AFX sounds get the PlastiCZ.

The MS20 can go for around the same price s/h as a new MS2000, around £500. However, the MS2000 can go for around £300 s/h. Thats just going by ebay though, keep your eye out in the classifieds section of your local paper & look around at second hand music equipment dealers on the net for a bargain. Thats the way to do it!

i'm not into any sound in particular, though I have a fondness for fm...i'm a big fan of certain industrial ambient tracks i've heard
I love the synths that I can get for my creamware card but it runs out of dsp too easily and its really frustrating becuase projects don't open, and don't want to splash out more on another

If you're after a'real' hardware synth, cheap, and does things properly, check the DX range. otherwise download the PPG wave, it's cool for digital fun

Yow! Thanks for turning me on to PlastiCZ! It's loads of fun, and I love the hard candy interface.
Check it out people - free version with two voices! You can do a lot of shit with even one voice when the sounds are this thick and insane.

The evil bastards! is it something like £15..? It's fair. I'd pay a lot for a synth that could be soo in your face... If you can't mail me and I'll find the unlock key...it'd better be an amazing excuse, I'm sure it's £15.

Oh I have no problem paying for it if I like it... it's just upfront it looked like it was a free version with reduced polyphony for a decent test drive. It's reasonably priced too - fifty bucks.
