was emailed this by a source at warp today.....

Warp Records launches MP3 download site -  bleep.com

In December 2003, Warp, the London-based independent music
and film company, will become the first record label in the
world to make their back catalogue and all new releases
available as high quality, pay-per-track MP3 downloads.

bleep.com will be the official Warp Records MP3 outlet and
aims to be the quickest and easiest method of downloading
Warp's music from the internet.

Unlike p2p file sharing (or even iTunes) bleep.com does not
require users to install proprietary software to access MP3
downloads.

Further information will be released to prior to bleep.com
going live.

bleep.com has been designed by The Designers Republic
(http:// www.thedesignersrepublic.com) and built by Kleber
(http://www.kleber.net).

what do you think to that??

i think its fantastic!!!!

meh.

I'm not much interested in mp3-quality.

I like my records full and plump.

it's not for everyone, but it's nice to have the option, i
suppose. i don't think i'd be using it too much, though.
maybe for impossible to find back catalogue stuff.

borrrrring!

I would like to see more services like Live Phish where
you can buy and download CD-quality audio and CD inserts if
you want to burn your own CDRs.

At least they're letting you dl mp3s... some schemes like
this use their own formats which degrade with each copy made
or that cannot be played on hardware mp3 players.

i wonder if they learnt lessons from the squarepusher

within minutes

I think the Pay Per Track thing is good.

If it's cheap enough then it's well worth it. But will they
keep track of what you've paid for? Say you lose it in a
Hard Drive crash?

Will, you be able to download the tracks you've already
downloaded? I think that would be a damn useful thing to be
part of the service.

This is a very interesting development. There's loads of
Warp stuff I don't have but never really been motivated
enough to try, this could easily change that if it's done
right.

you turn up zilch.
