Aphex Twin for men

girly grin on 2001-04-23 12:04 [#00004251]

Is there any woman who likes A T? His songs are brilliant
and I, as a girl, like them a lot. But I have to admit that
in my point of view the videos etc. AT-material are rather
masculine or focused to attract male. Is this music for men?

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-04-23 12:20 [#00004252]

Richard claims there are Girl-tracks and Boy-tracks...but I
don't believe in that. It depends who you really are.

My girlfriend likes AT too. I don't think that it's
depending on your sex, anybody who likes rich can be happy
that he/she have found him... :-)

clobesmith on 2001-04-23 16:05 [#00004278]

i've been going on my richard d. james album kick for the
last few weeks and have been "forcing" my girlfriend to
listen to it whenever we drive. she seems to like fingerbib
and girl/boy song. hmm, but for some reason doesn't like
milkman. oh well

Mr.Dirby from usa on 2001-04-23 16:22 [#00004282]

I am in college and I try to get as many people to listen
Aphex Twin as I can. Unfortunatly I have only gotten my
roomate to come around. As for the females who I try to let
in on this great musical genious. Well lets just say I never
got any dates by asking a girl to come by and listen to some
aphex.
Mr. Dirby

I know a female.... and she likes Aphex Twin a lot. So .....
whatever... maybe just more boys/men like his works more? I
dunno.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-04-23 19:32 [#00004303]

hey even mr. james' girlfriends sings along with milkman!

i don't think aphex twin is purely for men. there's lots of
sensitivity in lots of songs. so.

[REFLEX] from Canada on 2001-04-23 19:35 [#00004304]

Well yes i don't think that I or anyone else said it was
purely for a male audience.... maybe just directed that way
unintentionally?. I dunno. whatever.... I know a girl or
three that listen to his stuff avidly.

crapnose from Montreal on 2001-04-23 22:00 [#00004309]

what about SAWII? for both. RDJ Album too. most of his stuff
is for both.

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-04-23 22:26 [#00004310]

this is just another one of my stupid little theories
but,..

girls are a lot more lighthearted about things, and don't
take everything quite as seriously as men, (refering back to
the "female computer people" topic about 2 weeks ago) so
they would probably rather listen to pop which is a lot
easier to digest,... but that's just my opinion,

[REFLEX] from Canada on 2001-04-23 22:36 [#00004313]

I think thats true for a lot of girls.. as boys.. so i dunno
its just too big or a world to have one specific kind of
person.. into groups ya know?. I dunno... roughly for me,
Aphex is definitly something that more men listen to.. take
this message board for example.. or the people that I know
what listen to AFX.. they are all male with the exception of
2 females. So whatever.... its cool to meet people who
listen to AFX, let alone girlies.

Ross from can. on 2001-04-23 23:59 [#00004320]

i find a lot of girls just don't listen to electronic music
in general, and if they do, it's techno or something. My
friend appreciates weird electronic stuff like mouse on
mars, plone, etc. I have a friend who loves the come to
daddy ep, she's a huge industrial/nine inch nails/tool fan.

Id Lab on 2001-04-24 00:45 [#00004326]

Diastole is female, she likes Aphex etc. I know at least two
female Aphex fans in real life, though many more male ones.

Human© on 2001-04-24 04:55 [#00004356]

I have trouble finding anyone who likes it. I force my
girlfriend to listen. It is really fun to have sex to.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-04-24 20:03 [#00004443]

i regret my first statement. it is pretty shallow minded to
say girls only like poppy/sensitive music. who knows what
goes on in their minds!!

Women tend to like windowlicker for some reason. Probably
because the video is funny.

That's very true actually! I have been really surprised to
see Aphex on a couple of my girly friends' mp3 players. They
only ever have one track and it's Windowlicker every time.
It's a start though I guess!

It was (allegedly) an obsessed female whose letter included
the line used as a vocal in CTD, "I want your soul, I will
eat your soul."

I've also met two girls who had nothing to do with Zilty/not
at a festival who was what I would call a proper Aphex Twin
fan (owned several releases, T shirts/posters etc.)
