i've got a bit of money from this new job i got...i'm
thinking of getting the version with the custom made black
jewel case. i love the album so i figure it's worth it.

i got the US version that's just a clear case with some
words. :(

i also want to get the EP7 with the hidden track, and
replace my Tri Repetae++ with Garbage, Anvil Vapre, and Tri
Repetae - have them all separately, with all the artwork.

i'm an Ae fanatic, what can i say

I believe the black clear case one has been sold out for
quite some time now.

people could only find the version you describe, in the EP7
frosted case.

first time i heard this was freshman year in high school.
think i listened to it everyday that year. well, mostly
because i didnt have many other cds, but even so, this
album amazed me in every way when i first got it.

i dont think its my favorite anymore, but for nostalgic
purposes, its up there.

under boac is one of my all-time favourite ae tracks...

this album kind of starts off weak... but halfway through it
turns into one of my faves... the exact opposite of Chiastic
Slide, which has a great first half and a passable second
halff...

the first two tracks are considerably weak, but part of the
whole. from there i think its greatness. rae is what got me
into autechre essentially. vose in is up there too.

i dislike how everyone never mentions fold4,wrap5, quite
possibly one of the most original and innovative electronic
tracks ive heard. i have yet to hear someone perfect a
constant tempo change that is entirely in sync, like they
did on that song.

this is the autechre record to get. buy all the other ones,
but you have got to get this one.

My least favourete Æ record, actually. It doesn't have that
atmosphere the others have... a lot of it seems very
straight up IDM stuff, not too many particularly weird
sounds or dark atmospheric bits... meh. It has its moments
(Rae and Arch Carrier are probably my favourite Æ tracks
along with Piezo), but on the whole I'm not very keen on
it.
I loved it when I first heard it, too. The magic wore off
fairly quickly, though.

it has great moments, and i think i like every track on it
(maybe some a bit less though, drane2 for example - and i
dislike the ending of acroyear2, plus i think the melody in
acroyear2 should be louder, when i had it on mp3 the melody
was louder and it sounded better)... rae, under BOAC, etc.
definitely fine music...

....but
i don't know why, i think as a whole i like it less
than every track separated! (maybe it's due to the
transitions between the tracks, like the ending of
acroyear2... maybe i don't know)

the picture at amazon.co.uk is of a black autechre case - so
i assume its the black cased version. so i'm happy.

warpmart doesn't seem to have it in stock at the
moment...they tend to overprice these days though. :-\

I think this is a middle-of-the-pack AE record... or maybe
even one of the worst. All relative of course, it's a great
album. The ''clean'' sound on many of the tracks is my
favorite thing about it... crisp, clear sounds on tracks
like VoseIn, 777, Fold4, Acroyear, etc. You know what I'm
talkin' 'bout.

offline Cfern from Sacto (United States) on 2003-11-15 16:13 [#00951554]

This album changed my life when I first heard it.... i had
never heard such insane sounds before. However, after
listening to alot more autechre albums and other elctronic
music... I find that it is acutally one of their weaker
releases. The problem is quite clearly the songs. The
sounds are just mindblowing but the song structures don't
hold you well.

offline magicant from Canada on 2003-11-15 18:13 [#00951627]

if it's one of their worst, why did Autechre decide to
package in such an elegant black jewel case?

so perhaps, tolstoyed, Rob and Sean realized it was awful
and figured it needed that elegant packaging so it would
"stand out" among the others; make fans THINK it was the
best so they buy it, hm?

I think fold4, wrap5 was a nice experiment and it worked out
well.. the first track reminds me of venetian snares and I
hate it.. I really like rae.. and drane2 can get intense if
you have the patience for it.

Slagging it off? Jesus. This is AE's attempt at "fitting in
with the crowd" in my opinion. It's commercial, but not as
much as say Tri Repeatae. It seems to be more concerned
with keeping up with the sounds that were prominenmt at that
time. How can you not like shit like 777, Rae, Arch Carrier,
etc? On another note, I had a fight with a taxi driver
tonight, and he was being such a dick. Wankerrrr! I
should've buried the cunt

impressed/into Arch Carrier.. what's the appeal?

777 is cool yeah.

find the first track as the best one on the album. Maybe
because i'm fuct

I too think the first track is the best. It's catchy and
constantly changing. Most of the tracks are too annoying or
too reptitive or simply too boring for me
personally...althought, it has some great moments,
particularly the way Drane2 builds up.
I agree with whoever said that thing about atmosphere...it
does lack it. I love most of their other albums because of
their strange atmospheres, particularly Confield or Chiastic
Slide, but this and Draft (bar Surripere) lack enough
atmosphere for me.
