I fucking love this release, it's becoming my favorite.

the problem with this feature is that it makes a diferent
thread for every diferent release of the same ep or album

I already started a thread of gantzgraf... but with the dvd

well anyway its a great ep.
one that cost me a lot to get into

That's cool... I guess.

*Tries to imagine a harsh, vicious sound kicking self in the
nuts*

*Shudders violently*

Is the CD / DVD worth it? How much does it tend to cost?

one of the best things about ganz graf is that it starts
totally mental...becomes a bit more straight forward for
dial, then cap.IV simply knocks u off the chair (or bed or
floor or other platform of gravity) and by gradually
resorting form beutiful melody to chaotic
coolness...analysis complete...i *heart* ganz graf

For me, the EP goes downhill. Gantz Graf is great, Dial is
very good, Cap.IV is just a little irritating...

i like cap.iv best, it's a perfect climax at the end of the
ep
great track,
gantz graf is cool too,
dial doesn't do much for me

i agree, at the first listen i thought cap.iv was simply an
extension of dial, being that it really didnt go newhere,
tho i think cap.iv is great it reminds me of reniform puls a
lil bit at the begining

It's ok, it's an interesting idea. But I just can't enjoy it
at all, and I can appreciate Draft 7.30 and Confield.

To fully appreciate Gantz Graf, you gotta watch the DVD ...
simple as that..

I do not agree.

the track existed before the video.

watching the video is, to me, something else. a GOOD
something else.

but you certainly do not need to have seen it to 'get' gantz
graf.

true...

I am totally biased about GG as a audio/visual piece as I
just think it works so well - each half working with &
complimenting the other - I guess don't really see it as the
"video" as such...

Totally agree with Qrter. The imagery is nice, but I don't
need visuals to imput a wicked image in my head when I
listen to this and other Autechre tracks. Some are better
than Gantz Graf anyway. I like the one with the nekkid girls
the most.

absolutely.

the fluidity of the track is the amazing thing to me,
besides all the changes in texture.

BUT! the video is incredible too - it does indeed work very
well with the music. I remember when I got the dvd in the
mail - I didn't have a dvd-player then, so I took it to a
friends house and we watched it on his laptop. we were blown
away.. :)

The DVD doesn't even look like what I picture the track as,
and it STILL doesn't affect the way I hear it, even after
multiple views. I picture a gigantic machine, kind of like a
crane, moving around fluid gears and other machines, but
this big one is jerky and insane, parts and limbs are
disapearing and reappearing at random on other locations of
its body, doing strange things. That's how I ''get'' this
song.

But yeah, Rutterford did a great job and it gels with the
sounds perfectly. But there's more than one way to gel with
it.

I love it...(the only autechre ep I've never really fully
appreciated must be Peel sessions II)... I wonder where Boot
and Brown would place it in the Autechre landscape.. Is it
post-Confield or pre-Draft 7.30? Or just a solitary isle in
between? The second and third track sounds a bit like
autechre revisiting some of their older themes -Well, it
does to me anyway... The video IS amazing!

gantz graf is like the windowlicker of ae, so good by
itsself that theres no need for an album of similar
music....

love the song and the video, dial is ok tho i didnt expect
ae th have words, it worked well....capIV was great, i love
how it started so random and got faster as it became more
cohesive....

Co-existence - I'd say it's definitely a pre-Draft EP,
rather than a post-Confield one. The one thing that ties the
EPs with the albums, I think, is artwork (Garbage/Amber,
Anvil/Tri, Envane/Chiastic, EP7/LP5), and the artwork on
Gantz and Draft is similar - both use the æ symbol instead
of the letters 'ae', both have all the writing 'sideways',
and even the same font for the credits. Plus, personally, I
think it sounds a lot more like Draft than Confield.

hhmmm...not sure If I agree Bob...seems to me to be almost a
unique piece of art in every frame...I really don't think
I've seen that sort of attention to detail before; (Alex can
do no wrong in my eyes...a real talent; takes a lot to on
par visually with AE, but he really put the time & effort in
& came up with something more than the sum of it's
parts...)...

I'd say it was as visually exciting and innovative as the
Audio of GG itself...no mean feat...

I guess I'm saying it's a kind of 1+1=3 situation...

yep, I think that's parts of AEs uniqueness...their music
has that certain alien quality than forces internal
visualisation & gets the mind working...

Kinda archi-tek-ual...to coin a phrase...:)..

(I must admit I don't really see GG as a video in the
classic MTV sense...perhaps video-art is closer...)...

I think Gantz Graf is the kind of track that can't get
boring. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I've
listened to it, it just gets better. I can't even recall
anything that sounds remotely similar to it, by ae or anyone
else.

It doesn't have much of a melody, and the rhythm is
certainly beyond my comprehension, but it's gorgeous. It's
just sound and it's always changing. All you can do
is listen because you have no time to think or react. It
might just be the most perfect abstraction of music ever.

gantz graf = hello this is space station awesome and we are
blowing up planets for fun (9/10)
dial = robot baseball match in the year 6020 (9/10)
cap.iv = whoa (10/10)

Can anyone work out the words in this ep? In cap.iv I heard
"in case you're feeling" ... "please destroy" near the start
of the track, and there is definitely something going on in
dial. Smooth

its actually quite good. i was one of the first people who
started to give it a downgrade in the board, sounded like
shit compared to aphex twin, but if you give it time it'll
start growing on you and you'll realize how intricately
delightful gantz graf is.
