Smojphace will go down in history as the biggest kick in my nuts ever, album-wise. Spokes is also disapointingly boring.
Nothing else sticks out, it's been a really adequate year. That's not a good thing though.

most disappointing album is yours because you never sent me one :)
seriously though: 50 cent - get rich or die tryin' dead prez - RBG afx - smojphace autechre - draft 7.30
they all could've been a lot better given past efforts.. most disappointing are definitely afx and dead prez, i've never seen such sudden turns in artists before

Thing is, I was expecting it to be pants, and yet I was still disappointed.

ok, here i go, and i'm being completely serious: spokes is amazing. i may change my mind later but spokes is the best plaid album yet. it's short but every track is a banger. i like it better than the warp albums this year from LFO and autechre (and aphex if you want to count that). the only warp album i liked more was the new prefuse album.
'think tank' disappointed me too after '13' but it's still one of my favorite albums of the year. the new prince paul and massive attack albums are mildly disappointing as well, but both are still excellent--just very different from past material.

Titsworth - is RBG really that bad????
Lets Get Free has gotta be one of the best rap albums recorded, along with Gimini and DJ Dangermouse's Ghetto Pop Life.
My roommate got the Dead Prez mix tape that came out a couple weeks ago and it doesnt sound too bad.

empty the bones of you for me...
after clarence park i was probably expecting too much from chris clark but what a let down it was...
really i wonder why everybody praises it so much, it's not so bad but i find it uninspired and dull...
draft7.30 i like very much, tho a bit disapointed because i expected something different, but it's very good atmospheric music.
as for smojphace, i wasn't disapointed because i wasn't expecting anything, it was a complete surprise
i thought rich wouldn't have gone the speedy-breakbeat route with the bug remix, but it's really stunning what he did with the voice and the complete lack of melody
the noise tracks are again not what i expected but after one or two listen new patterns arise and a certain feeling of aphexness come alive in them, making them less o_0 than the first time i heard them

unfortunately 'RBG' is that bad, for me. 'let's get free' is one of the best hip-hop albums of all time, no question, so that's why it was so disappointing that they dropped the social commentary/expose in favor of a "gangstas with a cause" pose. instead of talking about tons of different topics with intelligence and passion, it's all tales of proactive ghetto warfare or knee-jerk whitey is evil/kill 'em all hogwash. it's better than i'm describing it but i'm gutted they dumbed down their lyrics and production (it's 1/2 produced by outsiders like kanye west, and while the music is good, dead prez had a perfect sound) in order to impress a lower class black audience who will mostly never hear about them regardless because they'll never be on the radio, BET, or MTV as long as they have a radical message (and it's just as radical now, just more focused on what to do about it instead of what it is).

spokes really is the best plaid to date, so if you didn't like spokes, then that doesn't say much about their earlier works.
most dissapointing? Tosca's Dehli 9 (disc 1) They didn't put much effort into this release. The second disc is much better, but its a bunch of ambient piano pieces with neat effects.

granted i've only heard smojphace one time, it was on my stock dell speakers at work, and it was on low volume, but serriously i can't understand how some of you guys are saying that you really like the noise tracks.
i'm honestly not trying to be a jerk here. i'd just like to understand what you can 'enjoy' about listening to them.
i've heard noise tracks before, and while i didn't like most of them i could see how someone might. but, with those two tracks i find it a stretch even considering them music. they sound very similar to what it sounded like when i used to put our old TRS80 data cassettes into a stereo.
i think maybe aphex was making a statement about the whole noise genre, or maybe it was a kind of 'fuck you' to his fans... a sort of trolling his fanbase or something.
i don't think i've ever heard an aphex track that i actually didn't like... he's got stuff that i don't particularly enjoy, but i wouldn't go so far as to say i 'disliked' it... except for those two tracks.
can a fan of kpt1 & 2 calmly and rationally explain what it is about them that you like? i mean, if some new artist released an album of 8 tracks like that would you go to the store and buy them and acually listen to it in your car? if so, what about it appeals to you?

it's not about speaking the language.. if i understand what you're saying. the slang they use is the same but they've completely changed directions; listen to "let's get free" then download the vaulted/shelved "RBG" and compare. they talked for the last couple years now about how disappointed they were that the only people who caught onto them were (supposedly) middle class white college students / backpackers and that their next album would be aimed at the ghetto.. it's not a question of phrasing, it's a complete artistic change

are you winding me up sir? don't be bitter, the plaid album is great but there's plenty of room in my rotation ;)
seriously though it's just personal disappointment, i'm not shooting dead prez down. i just bought their new "mixtape" album (paula will be bringing it, she picked it up) and i bought the one they put out last year too. i think they're doing themselves a disservice by dumbing down their lyrics and their production, it's never a good idea no matter who you think is going to suddenly latch on, BUT even doing so they still remain dope artists i will continue to enjoy.

Hmm, I dunno, I have been disappointed with a lot, but oddly none of the releases mentioned in this thread would figure highly on my list of most disappointing. Oddly Smojphace was exactly as I was expecting after Drukqs, arrogance can easily destroy an artist, and there were aspects of arrogance all over Drukqs.
