I'm just used to them for graphics work. Seems like less troubleshooting involved.
If you dont have a mac, a reasonable PC solution is Vegas Video, or Avid Xpress DV.

Adobe Premiere definately. In my experience, its best used on a system with two monitors (need at least Windows 98 to support this though, and of course two monitors and graphics cards in your PC)

fucking hell
premiere is dead. it rocked a few years ago, but it's dated now. i mean, hell, they aren't even releasing new versions for the mac anymore.
as the guy above said, vegas. it rules. made by the same dudes who make sound forge.
and of course, final cut pro on the mac.

and macs > pc's for video work because they just work.
you tell them to do something, it does it. they also seem to be loads faster processing video stuff.
pc's are like NO I DON'T WANT TO WORK ANYMORE :(((( PLEASE REINSTALL VIDEO DRIVERS AND EVERY CODEC UNDER THE GODDAMN SUN
last time i did video work on a pc i think i just about threw it through my fucking window.
