Very Very Annoying

Ironlung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-11-21 15:08 [#00054166]

Does anyone else find it annoying?...When you are talking
music with someone and bring up Aphex Twin...someone always
says sonething stupid like:
" Awww man, I like them alot"

Seems to happen more often than not.
Very fuckin annoying...Makes me wanna rip their eyelids off
and feed em sleeping pills.

jand from Essex,Uk on 2001-11-21 15:11 [#00054167]

Agreed....

Plus I always feel it sounds a bit anal to correct them so I
generally let it lie & don't bother to say "It's just one
guy, you know"...

Ironlung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-11-21 15:19 [#00054171]

Agreed also....It is as if we might as well not let them
know, we probably dont want them trying to learn anyways.

:)

tom from toms shack on 2001-11-21 15:24 [#00054172]

good job rich didnt call himself aphex triplets really eh?

jand from Essex,Uk on 2001-11-21 15:30 [#00054173]

It's apparently even in the book Glamourama by Brett Easton
Ellis (The American Psycho guy)...The main character meets
"one of the guys from the Aphex Twin"...

Alledgedly, I add...I've read the book about 3 times and
never noticed it myself, altho I was in Amsterdam at the
time so that might explain my poor reading skills...:)

Great book, tho...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 15:32 [#00054174]

I have a pile of dead corpses in my garage. They all have ONE
thing in common...
they thought Aphex Twin was a ''them''.

Taxi on 2001-11-21 16:28 [#00054191]

Who cares?

Isn't one of the better things about IDM how ambiguous the
artists personaes are?

Thats one of the things that won my respect for the genre in
the first place.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 17:44 [#00054212]

I care! Very much so!

w...ww(wwMMww)ww...w on 2001-11-21 17:50 [#00054214]

Maybe they were including and giving respect to his dead
brother (I guess that was his identical twin right?) as part
of the mysterious force responsible for creating the music,
like obi one kanobe guiding luke skywalker.

Xhephalomer from (Mescalinum Rec.) on 2001-11-21 17:59 [#00054215]

Well, never had such situation when I talked to somebody
else about The Aphex Twin - I think it's evident because of
the "twin" and not the "twins", and anyone who likes Aphex
and who has a little interest in the one behind the music
will know that RDJ is only one man.

Frothbottom from New York on 2001-11-21 18:00 [#00054216]

whenever I mention aphex twin, somebodly always says, "awww,
Milknan is sooo funny!"

1010-1111-10 from St.John's Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 18:14 [#00054219]

When i say "aphex twin" people act confused.

Also

Dont act so high and mighty. Perhaps you could climb down
from your all knowing aphex twin chair and tell the poor
soul that its only one guy. I dont get why you people act
this way. It i was rdj i would be flattered to think that it
takes more the one person to make my music.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 18:14 [#00054220]

Well it IS funny.

1010-1111-10 from St.John\\\'s Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 18:17 [#00054221]

yes only to nerds like us that know all these useless facts.
I'm sure we say something stupid like that to someone else
every day.

1010-1111-10 from St.John\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 18:18 [#00054222]

and things are generally more funny when there are a few
people around that get the joke.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 18:25 [#00054225]

Take a chill pill, life is too short to act all fair and
just. Mock those that are uninformed and uninitiated.

Bogus on 2001-11-22 02:04 [#00054360]

what do you mean by just one guy?

beef fog on 2001-11-22 02:15 [#00054366]

I agree with 1010-1111-10...who really cares?...

od from perth on 2001-11-22 02:21 [#00054367]

all the ppl who know afx that i know have only heard me
talking about him and playing his stuff in their cars
etc...
they just think hes another madman artist that i listen to.

it's good, i mean they all listen to craig david and that
bullshit but you gotta have a mutual respect.
they dont mind me putting on some random afx or sp shit

and i listen to their stuff when they play it

Aktium from bat country on 2001-11-22 04:05 [#00054399]

1010-1111-10 from St.John\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-22 04:18 [#00054402]

Mylanta Jones on 2001-11-22 07:34 [#00054432]

what I hate is when people tell me that Im pronounicing
autechre wrong.....I usually proceed to stuff a tomato down
there pants and run off screaming
"TOMATO IN YOUR PANTS....TOMAOTO IN YOUR PANTS"

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-22 07:46 [#00054437]

Aktium, stop flaunting your back, then! Put on a shirt, for
meow sakes!

Ironlung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-11-22 14:48 [#00054517]

I care and I find it annoying....either way....there all das
cunts.....

Fernz on 2001-11-22 15:07 [#00054525]

I laugh at their ignorance. :)

Scary Bear on 2001-11-22 15:09 [#00054526]

How do you all pronounce Autechre?

I say AW-TECK-ER

Is there some fashionable norm now???

bigbadbeardybloke on 2001-11-24 11:49 [#00055223]

autechre? i too said aw teck er, til my gf pointed out that
with audi, u dont say aw - di, u say ow - di... surely that
means its ow - teck - er... or maybe ow - tesh -
er...???????

Korben Dallas from + on 2001-11-24 12:30 [#00055224]

Isn't it cool to have a band name no one really knows how to
pronounce.

I think that is da shit

REPHLEX~ology from UK on 2001-11-24 16:17 [#00055235]

Plaid anyone?
Plad, played?

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-11-24 17:01 [#00055241]

I say aw-tich-er even though I know its wrong.

and I agree with what taxi said, who cares, the artists
personas are imbiguous, its the music that counts...at least
your friend likes 'them'

Ceri JC from Wales on 2001-11-24 17:24 [#00055245]

Don't you find it annoying when people say "The Aphex Twin"
to point out that they know it's only one guy, despite the
fact that hardly any of his releases say "by The Aphex
Twin".

Ceri JC from Wales on 2001-11-24 17:30 [#00055249]

I say ore-tek-er.
Plaid is a proprer word (a style of knitting/sewing) it
sounds like "played", but with a I instead of a Y, e.g
"Plai-d".

It is cool that the band names are so hard to pronounce (and
communicated verbally so rarely). It's great fun asking for
their latest songs in a virgin megastores and watching the
guy look at you like you're on drugs.

I'm finally picking up my copy of drukqs tomorrow, it's been
at my parents for 2 weeks now!

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-24 19:31 [#00055266]

I hate how they used to say ''The Pink Floyd'', like back in
the Syd days.
Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?
We call it ridin' the gracy TTTTRRRRAAAAIIIIINNNNNNNN
UUUHHHYYYEEEEAHHH
Da Da
Da Da

IronLung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-11-26 14:32 [#00055692]

Ahhh....Now I see that the newest issue of STUFF magazine
has given our Richard 5 stars for Drukqs.

How sad, seeing as though they also gave Incubus' Morning
View 5 stars last month.

1010-1111-10 from St.JOnn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 15:07 [#00055693]

man i cant believe people give so much of a shit over the
way people say names. Geez get over it and listen to the
bloody music. Like come on why wouldnt you just tell the
person that they are often call by what ever their name is
susposed to be rather then make fun of them. I hate people
like that. Its like they get off on knowing that they know
more then you do about something that really doesnt matter!

IronLung from Dark Side of the moon on 2001-11-26 15:47 [#00055705]

This is the same reason you dont give a retard a sharp
object....its not a good mix...

(Its just better not too)

Ceri JC on 2001-11-26 15:54 [#00055708]

I was wrong, you pronounce plaid "plad" (it is a style of
sewn fabric, though).
It doesn't bother me how you pronounce it, it's just that
that guy asked.

Oh, I always thought the pf lyrics were *gravy* train ;-)

Frag from nj on 2001-11-26 16:17 [#00055718]

You think that's bad? I've had someone say

"Aphex Twin? That's a band!"

It's like, "No no no it's not, now run or I hit you with a
nine iron."

With NIN you can call it/him anything really, since it's
everything

Chrispy from UK on 2001-11-26 16:54 [#00055729]

I dont mind if people say that they like the Aphex twins....
They could soon find out if you just say in a happy voice
with a chuckle... "Heh, It's actually one bloke! Mad int it?
Yea... he's a cleaver guy" It's called learning? I dont know
whether any of you have heard of it...
