Liking Faith No More doesn't mean you'll like his solo/collaborative output, most of it is intended to piss off the mainstream listeners who loved 'Epic'. The fact you're on here is a decent start as you obviously like experimental music. Try Bungle, then Fantomas, Tomahawk, DEP... leave the solo stuff till last (or not at all if you hate Zorn).

I mean, he is overrated, too many people throw the word genius around these days when people evidentely aren't; There's not that much groundbreaking music in Patton's resume, mostly it's refineing and tinkering with existing genres, then combining them and mutating them into something fresh. You could easily listen to it and say, well that's just a guy screaming. I think he is lyrically pretty good - ups and downs - musically interesting and a great performer. Anyone who can collide styles so well as Bungle do on Disco Volante and sound great (to my ears at least) is worth respecting. Rant over, the fucking end.

Right on : )
I've been into experimental music since I was a young child (Don't ask me how I got a hold of Einstuerzende Neubauten's 2x4 when I was in grade 5 lol!).
I think I just hate people more then anything. HYPE SUCKS.

Mike Patton is good, though I never liked Faith No More at all, one of the most overrated bands of the 80s/90s, ick. Mr. Bungle and Fantomas are interesting though.
He reminds me of a poor man's Frank Zappa for some reason, even though they don't really have THAT much in common except some eclectic madness. But he's a good guy to remind me of, so big ups to Mr. P.
