I sent one demo too Planet mu last week cause the few that
listen to my tracks when I post them really gave me some of
that confindence stuff I lack : )

Actually I think Im going to make a thread with 3 of my
newest songs and you guys could tell me if I should send out
demos or not : )

I spam my music on here, my livejournal, watmm and tefosav.
That's about it.
I used to play gigs but don't anymore, and I sent out one
demo once to rephlex liek 3 years ago.

I'm trying to get good enough so I don't have to promote
myself at all.

1) i've never even put together a collection of my stuff.

2) nah. pain in the ass.

3) *shrugs* when i make a new track i post it here. s'about
it. occassionally other places. but nobody ever says
anything except for people around here.

4) nope.

5) i have once. it was scary.

6) nope.

7) me (sometimes). and then i always think my friends just
tell me they enjoy my stuff to make me feel good. and that
makes me a little sad. but oh well.

Q4Z2X: I appreciate that. Thank you. btw, I've sent a couple
friends on here CD-Rs, were you still interested in getting
one? Just let me know whenever.

Oddio: If you're interested I have a handful of mp3s here:
call... and a sort of recent one here.

Let me know what you think. I've heard bits & pieces of your
stuff, but not enough to really know. I thought that trk
that you and Skink did together was nice.

that'd be great. i'll be finishing up putting the final
touches my collection of tracks very soon.., and hopefully
getting my burner to actually work, then i will send the
discs out to some labels and people who are interested.. i
will send you an email .. and we should do a disc exchange.

which labels have you sent material to?

I'm sending different demos to different labels.. each
highlighting an aspect of the music I make that best
identifies with that particular label's sensibilities

Skam is one.. and Music 70 is another

although i enjoy positive feedback from listeners at
xltronic, i'm generally motivated to make music for my own
interest and pleasure. i would only seek to release music
on a label if i felt people would be interested in buying
it, and the interest is, i think, not there.

personally, i have no interest in marketing or promotion.
currently, it is *virtually* impossible to make
(significant) money releasing electronic music. the market
is small and is shrinking. if you're not seeking
self-validation or approval from your peers, there's not
much reason to pursue selling music when you can give it
away to those who are interested.

1) do you send demos out frequently (once every couple of
weeks or every month)? how many have you sent out in the
last year?
never sent out any demos

2) do you pursue airplay on internet / independent radio?
(non-commercial radio) if so, how often?
no

3) how often do you participate in self-promotion?

every once in a while

4) do you mail your music to musical-based journalistic
publications? (online or offline)
not jet

5) do you participate in remix contests and compilations?
sure do

6) have you ever attempted to publish a tangible form of
your music (cd, cdr, tape) on your own?
maybe

7) how many "fans" would you say you have? i could
count them on one hand :)

i thought the question was going to be: how hard do you
try, when you make your music. recently i'd say, not very
... mm

music70? are you kidding? that's a vanity label. name any
other artist that has had a release on music70 besides BoC.
you can't. it's not really a label.

intransitive, mego, klankrieg (but it came right back for
some reason), activesuspension, tsunami-addiction,
crazyfungus, rocketgirl, and at least 20 other labels i
can't think of off the top of my head.

clic, i'm downloading yours. :D

hmmm.. crazyfungus is the only one i know that's
specifically electronic right now, but i don't think they're
signing any artists as of yet - i just sent to a bunch of
randomly picked indie labels here in DFW...

oh yeah!! i also tried mad monkey too - might want to give
there a go, but ask first, because they don't accept demos
often.

about 95% of the time it's nothing... however... here are MY
exceptions.

Intikrec - knew its founder. ended up appearing on their
MUZIK compilation and the track got internet play in France
through activesuspension - turns out more people know me
through this track than i thought...

LunaticWorks - I continuously sent to them, and almost ended
up on a comp, but a lack of communication on my behalf
caused it to go sour - no worries though, because i recently
sent them some cowboy sugarcakes, and they asked me to keep
it coming....

crazyfungus - DIY labels aren't tough to land on, but it's
definitely a start. they have released two cdr's by me, but
may be defunct soon for reasons beyond my control. =S

also, in terms of publications, dallaslocalmusicscene.com is
supposed to have some reviews up of my music soon - they're
taking their time though.

as for radio, i will be sending stuff today for play on
titsworth's radio show in carlisle, PA, and for net play on
scenenow radio here in Texas. (that is if either of them
like it)

links on your zebox page, just was curious if there were
anymore. i'm not interested in trying to send them stuff, i
suck. i want to support them :)

yeah, crazyfungus will be defunct soon - but keep an eye on
creampuff - i'd also recommend lunaticworks - great
up-and-coming label - it's in california but the guys who
run it will actually give you the time of day. :D

well their label isn't planning to launch immediately, but
plans to go in about 2004 - which isn't too far off from
now, now that i think about it.

and yes, the creampuff posse rocks the house. :D

1) I'm currently getting together my first lot of demos
to send off. My next album is coming out on a small indie
label, though, so there's no rush. I'd quite like my IDM
stuff to be heard, though.

2) I've had airplay, but none from my own request

3) I promote my music on message boards, to friends etc.
quite regularly

4) I mail copies of all releases on my label to a couple
of places where I know they'll get reviews. Now I'm starting
doing pressed CDs (rather than CDrs), I'm going to be
sending more out

5) My tracks feature on several compilations, I have done
probably fifty remixes over the last couple of years

6) I've released a number of CD-r issues on my own
label

7) I have maybe 20 'fans' at the moment, who are always
interested in upcoming music, buy CDs etc.

You know there are several musicians on here that should be
getting the same type of distribution as some of the people
on Warp. It isn't like most indie or punk bands where the
local bands really sound local and it is somewhat obvious
why they are only known in that area. I think there is a
lot of stuff that sounds really professional and
accomplished being produced by the members of this board.

From what I have heard a band/artist has to really play out
live a lot in order to be considered by most labels. They
want to see them develop a following in their own area
first. This may not be the same for every band but probably
is for most.

Tibbar and I used to be in a project with one other guy back
in 97. It was somewhat industrial although some of the
tracks had an ambient orb-like quality to them. Anyway, at
the time Dave Wright from Not Breathing and Mark Spybey from
Dead Voices on Air were on irc a lot in this #dvoa chatroom.
I got Dave to let me put him down as a recommendation on a
demo we wanted to send to Invisible Records (both of them
were signed to this label).

Anyway a few weeks go by and one morning the other guy in
our project, Ed, wakes up to the phone ringing and when he
answers it Martin Atkins (Invisible CEO, member of Pigface,
Ministry, Killing Joke, etc.) is on the line with our demo
playing in the background.

We didn't end up getting signed (probably a good thing) but
he did say we had some talent although we needed some work
:P. Thought it would be an interesting story to share
considering the topic.
