been doing it about 5 years,

first with the blowhole (invented by [H]) www.hardocp.com

and mainly air ducts in my case with an ungodly amount of
fans and cardboard ducts to my cpu.

p133 @ 150, the CLASSIC GODLIKE celeron 300a @ 504

you get the idea

now it's become so mainstream :(

oh well

I've just finished building a custom, 2.4ghz P4 overclocked
to 2.8ghz 512mb pc3200 ddr ram, 90gigs 7200RPM maxtor, GIANT
black case with castor wheels, a custom plexiglass side that
my friend and I built, 10 fans total, rheobus controller w/
blue LEDs for 4 of the fans, a cold cathode blue neon light,
3 blue led fans on the plexiglass side, zip drive, front
usb, 52x24x52 cdrw, 2 front mounted pcmcia slots (which I
currently dont use) and 2 400watt powersupplies running it
all. I tend to nickname this beast R2D2 because its got blue
lights and rolls :) Oh yeah and its loud as FUCK. >;)

how photovillage works? only owners can see their photos

I had to wait a few seconds before the picture loaded. Nice
looking, but the neon would give me a headache. My big as
computer is loud enough with 4 fans, I don't want to imagine
10.

take a pic of it) its a beige (eew, i know) mid tower with 2
rear exhaust, 1 front intake fans, side panel plexiglass
window with a red cold cathode light and a really fuckin
clean wiring job done by yours truly. my spec are: athlon xp
1700+, 256 mb ddr-ram, geforce 2 64mb, creative audigy
platinum eX, toshiba cd-rw/dvd-rom combo drive (32x32x56/16x
i think) and a generic 56x cd-rom, 40 gb maxtor hdd

I don't mod cases, I would like to learn that as well as OC
and building.

I plan on getting a Water Cooled case for my new PC that I'm
going to put together. Though, it's going to run me over
$500 :[ *sigh* at least it'll be quiet and I can have
someone OC it like a bish.

Nowadays, with the right motherboard, processory, and
cooling solution, there isn't much to overclocking..

I have an MSI Corecell motherboard, which comes with the
corecell software which overclocks the processor at the
touch of some buttons, and gives you a readout of all the
temperatures in your computer. Very handy to have.

Case modding is fine, but I have a full tower case which
fits perfectly between my desk and bookcase/unit in my room,
so modding the case would be pointless, as the side panels
are not visible

those things look so badass on their own, even without
modding! it's like a PC that is the same size and shape of a
gamecube.. choice! Unfortunately, you can't fit "double
wide" graphics cards in them and having only 1 agp and 1 pci
slot means I'd probably never end up getting one.. still, i
like the idea.

nice! I heard that those were doublewide as well, like the
new nvidia cards.. are they, or was my source just full of
shit?

offline Phobiazero from the next Xltronic (Sweden) on 2004-01-13 14:46 [#01031594]

no, they are not doublewide. however you can't use 3rd-party
cooling solutions like the zalman zm-80 without having to
mod the box (cutting out a small window for the heatsink).

gone are the days when shuttle were small beige boxes with
poor performance. shuttle of today are at least as fast as
any modern system - damn, it's just smaller.

i can't see why anyone would like to have their large tower
chassis any longer. ok, there are exceptions. if you're
using a 4-disk raid system or similiar.

for example, my system (sb75g2) will have all of the
following stuff: p4 3.0 ghz, 1024 mb, 74 gb raptor sata,
radeon 9800xt, integrated gigabit ethernet and wlan
(wireless), integrated usb 2.0 6-in-1 card reader.... as you
can see it's standard parts and, for now, high end
products.

we're no longer limited to poor performance.

more info: http://us.shuttle.com/specs2.asp?pro_id=388

there's a shuttle for everyone... :)

I wasn't knocking any of the other specs of those systems, I
know what they are capable of :) Reading reviews for a
recent one by Voodoo, one of Shuttle's competitors, said
that they only have 1 agp and 1 pci slot and that therefore
doublewide's couldnt be used... The specs on yours are
actually better than mine except for harddrive space, but I
use all but 1 of my 5 pci slots, so a shuttle wouldnt really
suit me too well at this point in time. ;)

I have a shuttle- Alienware Media Center Edition- Built in
tv tuner and Tivo-remote control too!
2.4gP4/512ddr/120hd/128mbgeforce and only one fan thank god!
Whisper quiet. Motors should never be placed on an audio
circuit.
Also a 256 grafix card is a waste of money- not an app in
existence that will use it. Good call on the shuttle case
tho- they're cute- gonna have mine chromed.

especially when they are all over the floor between a wall

trust me, it will be utilized much quicker than you think:
as has been said already doom 3 and halflife 2 will easily
make use of extra video memory. You have to see that
doubling the available memory is a good thing.
