I arrived in work this morning to hear my colleague decry the UK government's amnesty on asylum seekers as disgusting.
I fuckin hate these reactionaries. I believe we should have an immigration policy where for every one asylum seeker who enters Briatain, we should send one of these twats out. I don't care where they go but I just want them out.

I have no problem with Asylum seekers who're seeking it for a good reason. I have a problem with those that're just coming over because they can get a shit load of stuff for free. THAT annoys me. I have no problem with our contry helping others in need. In fact I encourage it and think it's a good thing. But this current environment of letting anyone and everyone in because they want to be here is stupid. We're going to end up in a bad state soon and there won't be an easy way out.

He he, one of my mates who is most vehement on this issue is from Iraq and came over as an immigrant in the early 90s. He has a genuine loathing for economic immigrants as they (at the very least) hold up people like his family's applications and in the worst case, stop them getting in.
People get so annoyed at economic immgrants that they tar all immigrants with the same brush. Not justifiable, but it is understandable.
I suspect the thing your coworker brought up was our government's fantastic "immigration amnesty" idea... the basic premise is this:
We're falling behind processing immgrants and causing huge delays to our backlog of work. So, we'll write off all current illegal immigrants and focus on starting anew.
The main reason this policy annoys me is that it is due to meeting targets rather than for any practical reason. The same could be said of NHS waiting lists- we're sixth months behind, lets just say screw everyone currently waiting for an operation and start the lists again. Imagine police decided to cease investigated all crime prior to today and focused solely on crimes that occur now?

Well, my family were economic migrants from Ireland. Should I go back?

Taking court action for more money seems to be the latests craze as well.
"I don't think my £30,000 for sitting on my ass is enough. I can only afford one satellite dish and one BMW! My friend who came over at the same time has two and a larger house. But he only has one extra child than me. You're being discrimatory!
I think that was more or less what I read the report as saying. I can't remember the wording but they were complaing that they didn't get enough money. Thankfull y the case was thrown out of court.

Where did you read about that? The Sun? The Daily Mail?
The fact is that asylum seekers get 1/3 of dole. Have you ever tried to live on the dole?
We need less repetition of the right wing media's lies. They have their own agenda.

it's easy to blame someone else when your country is shit - if you are apathetic about everything else.
no interest in politics - blame asylum seekers when everything goes wrong -
no sense of community - blame asylum seekers
we'd be fucked in this country without immigrants - they do all the shit we don't want to do.. and practically run the health service.
as for illegal asylum seekers taking all our jobs - i'm sure no one wants to be a prostitute or work in a fucking sweat shop .
we created most of the situations that create asylum seekers anyway.
they used to be called refugees anyway - now they're victims and predators alike
