kitsch means 'fake' in artland. It's an arty fake form of a real thing. like, for your pictures, the poses, the light, the make-up and costumes are quite visible BECAUSE no one would ever make such esthetic pictures of a horrible scene like that. Things are a bit exagerrated and idealised, and that makes it kitsch (and that is not necessarily a bad thing) |
