YOUR TOP 5 DRUMMERS

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 18:34 [#00054231]

If Martin never found Ringo, so what.
If Richard D James was born retarded, he'd suck. But he
wasn't!

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 18:40 [#00054235]

he's famous no doubt, but for what Lennon and Mcartney did
basically... what they wrote... he simply played simple
little drum parts for them...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 18:46 [#00054237]

The job of a drummer...
is to drum...
Ringo...
drummed on the best songs ever made...
stayed in the back...
where drummers belong...
in the back...
and did his job AD PERFECTUM!...
you can't make a better drum beat for I am the Walrus than
the one he did. Steady, repetitive, hypnotic, like the song.
If Moon was on that, it would sound chaotic and immature. Or
something. True, ANYONE could play that, but NOT anyone
could have the taste and team-mentality to stay back like
that, but he did. For the good of the band, not drummer
glory! That makes him a winner, and everyone else losers,
cuz I don't see THEM tastefully holding the beat for the top
musicians ever.

Sido Dyas from An Imperial Cruiser on 2001-11-21 21:42 [#00054279]

I liked Jimmi Hendrix's drummer Mitch Mitchel. He was real
wicked, When they played "Fire" live it was so fast the beat
sounded like DnB.
The first Jungelist he he!!!!!

laughing cow from willow farm on 2001-11-21 22:36 [#00054294]

No-one needs drummers! A minute's good programing is worth
a thousand bloody drummers...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-21 22:49 [#00054296]

he played on great great songs, sure... but that doesn't
make him a great drummer... he was just lucky to be in a
band with Mcartney and Lennon... when you're talking about
best drummer, or best anything else, you don't judge based
on what band they were in, but on their playing ability...
and frankly, Ringo Starr was nothing special...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 23:42 [#00054308]

Nope, he's not the best, but he's the greatest. He'll be
remembered, most people don't know and don't care who Ginger
Baker is, because the songs he was involved in aren't one
tenth as good as the songs RINGO was in. I know what you're
saying, but I have different criteria. Think like this,
Pavel Bure scores shitloads of goals, more than Mike Peca,
but Peca is steadier and plays a non-flashy, team game, give
me Peca anyday over Pavel Idiot-Fave! Ringo is the grinder
in the background, the Peca.

I've lost my mind at this point.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-21 23:46 [#00054309]

That should have been Pavel-Idiot-Face. Silly moi.

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-11-22 00:02 [#00054315]

5. Lars Ulrich - Metallica (puke!!!)
4. Ian Paice - Deep Purple
3. Ginger Baker - Cream
2. John Tempesta - Slayer
1. Gene Hoglan - Strapping Young Lad

Anyone here listen to Strapping Young Lad?

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-11-22 00:07 [#00054319]

Some of the Canadians on this site must know Strapping Young
Lad....fronted by Devin Townsend

Bubble from Bobble on 2001-11-22 00:09 [#00054322]

Hey Ophex - doesn't the question/poll thing say drummers?

So, the fact [opinion] that Ringo was in "the best songs
ever" does not make him the best drummer. He may have been
the most suitable drummer for this kind of music, and i
don't think people are disputing this, but as a DRUMMER ..
not band member or most complimentary musician or what ever
.. as a DRUMMER, i think Ringo was somewhat average, just
look at Keith Moon - not thats drumminG!!!

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-22 00:35 [#00054331]

Drummer... Ringo is a drummer... damn good one... that's my
opinion, and you'll have to tie me to a table and hold a
knife to my balls before I change my mind!!! :)

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-11-22 00:43 [#00054333]

Ophecks... thanks for your opinions... they mean nothing as
to "YOUR TOP 5 DRUMMERS". You rant on and on about Ringo,
but yet choose to disclude any other ones, because "Ringo
held back"... BAH. SHUT UP! If it weren't for George Martin
or John, Paul, or George... Ringo wouldn't be anyone.
Drummers like Bozzio, Buddy Rich, Stewart Copeland, Erskine,
Baker... the list goes on... made drumming an experience
rather than something that makes all that crap like "POP"...
listen to more drumming... I bet you can't drum to any of
bozzio's stuff, b/c his drumming whales little "I am the
walrus" shit.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-22 00:54 [#00054340]

Ringo's the best, he's so tasteful! Bonham who? Zep is a
piece of shit compared to the Beatles, lalalala.
Did I mention how tasteful Ringo is? go Ringo!

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-22 00:55 [#00054341]

And BELIEVE me, I've heard ALL the drummers, and Ringo
stands higher and uglier than them all, for some reason.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-22 03:09 [#00054376]

Ophecks: Well I got a knife... so that an be arranged...
just give me a more specific address and I'll be right
over...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-22 03:11 [#00054378]

Neil Peart is my favorite drummer... I literally listen to
some Rush songs just because of the drumming... it's friggin
amazing!!!!

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-22 03:12 [#00054379]

Oh, by the way... La Villa Strangiato is an AWESOME Rush
instrumental if anyone is interested in hearing great
musicianship... the drumming, bass playing, and guitar is
excellent!!!

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-11-23 01:33 [#00054724]

yawwwwn Rush....
they were good in the 70's.....

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-23 01:46 [#00054725]

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-11-26 23:30 [#00055860]

Ya I know that it's a 70's song but I am not the hugest Rush
fan...I am particularly fond of another canadian band called
The Rheostatics! Now they, IMO, are the best canadian act on
the planet!!!

Oh and huge ups to Meshuggah!!! They rule! Their drummer
isn't as good as GENE HOGLAN from Strapping Young
Lad/Almighty Punchdrunk/Dark
Angel/Death/Testament/Naphobia...........though!!!

John Tempesta from SLAYER is the king of double-bass-kick...

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-11-29 00:43 [#00056582]

I disagree... vinnie and john are both equal... BUT, TERRY
BOZZIO IS THE KING, no doubt :)

Danny carrey from tool ro>love the DM drummer, he is very smooth. I also love Lars
Ulrich......NOT! He sucks my balls, and double bass drumming
is stupeed. Anyway, i also like the drummer from Rancid and
the drummer for King Chrimson sucks!

Primo from Colorado on 2001-11-29 05:11 [#00056642]

oops, umm
what i said was "danny carrey from tool is awsome and the
drummer from DM is so smooth in playing. I love lars
ulrich.....NOT he sucks my balls and double bass drumming
sucks. I am a drummer and i think its so pointless. Also, i
want to say goodbye"

RobD on 2001-11-29 13:53 [#00056757]

The old drummer from Oasis was the BEST! Why did they kick
him out?
Actually, I don't know a great deal about drumming, but I
know NOBODY HAS MENTIONED BILLY COBHAM, and he one of the
GREATS!

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, Canada on 2001-11-30 00:58 [#00056938]

hahahaha

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 02:38 [#00056968]

3) Jimmy Chamberlin

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, B.C. Canada on 2001-12-03 04:19 [#00057640]

OASIS licks ballz...yes they do.
Who cares about their drummer.
Ringo kicked his ass at least.

I play a weird drum style myself...rather
thrash-metal-blues. Funny. Sure.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-03 04:35 [#00057642]

I'm not a drummer, but I play one on TV.

Ringo Starr. Best drummer ever for the best band ever, with
the best George ever.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-03 04:40 [#00057643]

As George Harrison put it, Ringo kept a steady beat... he
wasn't flashy, and I guess that totally fit into The Beatles
music... although it was totally different, and innovative,
it wasn't flashy like a Jimi Hendrix, or Led Zepplin song
with mad guitar solos and stuff... but come on now, he
wasn't the best drummer...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-03 05:33 [#00057650]

Fuck guitar solos, the Beatles have a universal appeal that
will never die, and is a MUCH greater achievement than any
fucking wanker solo that any idiot could do if they
practiced enough. Shit, even I can play Jimi's solos, and
get them almost dead on, but I'll be SHITASSDICKFUCKED if I
can make a song like Strawberry Fields Forever.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-03 05:34 [#00057651]

And I know Ringo ain't the best drummer ever, I just get off
by annoying people. He's great, I know other drummers blow
him out of the water. But they would also make the Beatles
suck with their wanktitude, and they'll never be good enough
to be a Beatle.

hotpants from delhi on 2001-12-03 14:20 [#00057748]
