I think he meant, that people wouldnt know how to react, to
an american understanding satire... as americans seem to
take things at face value?

Morton: Just how the hell is that offensive??

well according to the fact that about 6 million jews where
murdered due to this 'teamwork' it might just remind some
people of their relatives who where amongst those people,
but hey, despite that little fact teamwork was a great thing
in this case ey

what the fuck is this, the fifties?

uh sorry, i didn't know we should've forgotten about it
after the fifties or that it's appropriate to make jokes
about it since then,

once again, i wasn't offended, but everyone with some
working braincells can see that it might bring back awful
memories to some people

Complaining about something like that, would be like
complaining about Schindler's List - becuase "ohh, it brings
back too many memories"..now, no-one would even approuch
Schindler's List in that way..becuase its universially
considered to be a serious film, and a "work of art"...but,
what if i was to approuch that poster in that context, what
then?

offline nacmat on 2003-10-22 03:47 [#00913489]

is teamwork any company or something that I am missing?

or is just like anybody working in a team?
in this case I just dont see it offensive nor funny

i don't see how schindler's list makes a joke about the
second world war,
maybe you can help me out

if you don't see how that picture might be offensive to some
peopl, you're dumb... God knows if I was tortured in a nazi
concentration camp for 5 years, and then saw this 50 years
later, I would not laugh...

Yeah, but if you'll just notice..i didn't actually say
that..i said what if i was to consider something
(apparently) offensive in the same context as Schindler's
List?

Im showing how ridiculous censorship is in any situation,
anywhere..

Schindler's List..because that's "okay"

schindlers list can't be taken as mocking the holocaust...
that poster can be...

offline Morton from out (Netherlands, The) on 2003-10-22 03:57 [#00913501]

i know you didn't say that, but i pointed out the difference
between the two, schindler's list gives a view on how
terrible that time was, the picture makes a joke about it
which might offend people,
therefore censorship is not always ridiculous

exactly my point - and that no one has the right to bann
something becuase there is a possibility that someone can
interpret either "works" differently..

but as it has been shown - not everyone has "gotten" the

ok... now I get my problem with that joke...

it is not that I didnt get the point... the fact is that it
is not funny at all, and I was trying to find the funny
element where there was not.

my opinion:
censorship should be censored

but closing a thread with insults or whatever that offends
anyone is not censorship... its just protecting everybody`s
right not to be insulted or offended, everybody´s right to
be respected at everymoment.

this is:
my freedom ends where yours starts.

Yes. Anyone who makes unfunny postings on this MB should be
censored. But the only way to ensure quality control as far
as wit is concerned is to kame me a moderator. I have a very
sophisticated sense of humour.

look, the point is..what if someone wanted to post on the
subject?..as far as i could see..there was no insults.

I don't need "protection" from anyone, i should be alowed to
comment on anything - if thats obstructed, then fuck you.

and we are forgetting the most important fact:

this is not a democrazy, phob will close just whatever he
wants we like it or not.

if he finds the post has to be closed he will close it...
and will not justify why he did it.
if you like that fine, if you dont, you know where the exit

Your so called irony does not cut any mustard with me. There
is nothing funny about the holocaust. Six million Jewish
people who had done nothing wrong were tortured, raped and
slaughtered like animals. Your so called post-modern ironic
nazi picture has offended me deeply and i can't wait to see
your next hilarious avator. A black person getting lynched,
maybe? Or a baby getting raped? Who knows? All i know is
it's going to be hilariously tongue in cheek and totally
zany and ironic.

i dont think that picture was suggesting anything about the
holocaust being 'ok' and so forth. Sure, it was offensive to
some, but surely those who were offended should stand up and
argue their point rather than the topic being closed down to
protect people or whatever. Man, im talking out my ass
today. Close the board instead.

I'm arguing my point, asswipe. What I'm saying is that
saying that you are being ironic is a wonderful get out
clause for all these racist bastards. Why a Nazi picture in
the first place? Why did Zeus do it? Why?

I remember this one documentary, 'Hitler's Henchmen,' and it
talked about how one of his guys got these gypsy twin
children, these two girls, took them away one day (this
while they were in the camp) and returned them later and
they were surgically sewn together by the back (I think one
already had a hunchback). One armyman was talking about how
they weren't crying, just weeping, and not like in agony.
Their parents suffocated them with a blanket later. I truly
like that.
