Mind you the fuckers got enough money to be able to afford the kind of treatment poorer folk would be denied - leading them to die while a moderately good actor who hasn't had to do a hard days work in years lives on...this world is fucked up.

i would say not, my father a hardworking poor folk, got it a few years back, had surgery and survieved, really, i know your point, but make it more clear.
the key to any healthy life is regular check-ups and insurance... so there.
deniro, is fucking brill btw, he is an actor, ie not just a lazy slob who sits about picking his nose waiting to die. this guy has worked his ass off to be where he is, so what if he is filthy rich, big fucking deal... he can afford to survive, it's the ways of nature.

No, I was thinking that I should be no more concerned for him than I should be for anyone else. Even with charity hospitals the level of care and drugs available to those patients is a lot less than if they were self funding.
ifcardo I am pleased everything worked out OK for your father, but there are documented cases here where if the doctors/hospital feel the cost of treatment outweigh the potential for cure they choose not to administer medication. This is a purely financial decision and I am sure the same thing goes on world wide.
Zaphod your comment was just fucking stupid and misses my point entirely, if you don't have anything useful to add stay the fuck out of any topics I make.

Can anyone remember when De Niro last did any real acting? He's been sitting scratching his ass for the past 20 years. No wonder he's got cancer.

all apologies for my comment. really though, chill out a bit. and deniro has done some ok acting as of late, nothing spectacular. i kind of like the way hes becoming a pretty laid back character actor at this point, but i'd still like to see a great performance out of him in the future.

What I would most like to see is him and Martin Scorsese (and Joe Pesci and the rest of the old gang) collaborating once again. Their collaborations have always been more than the sum of their parts: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino etc.
But De Niro seems to be more interested in doing comedy these days.

True, true. I haven't seen him kickin in the good 'ol Pacino Charisma since The Insider.
But I think the last real good role I've seen him play was in Scent of a Woman and that was at least ten years ago.
He seems to be professionally in a similar situation as De Niro these days.
But I do think they both still have a few killer roles in them. We'll just have to wait and see.

this is true. i think the problem is that they're getting typecast - plain and simple. it happens to a lot of actors. i think the main reason Pacino and De Niro have been pursuing other, while less entertaining, roles, they do this to show they at least have some versatility.
