Good stuff, I like short songs usually better. "jigoku..."
stood out because the sound was different than the others,
less chaotic and lighter. Your songs remind me of download
but I think I already said that. "shinjuku" also stood out
because the sound units were smaller and could be organized
more intricately (that's my favorite one). "meifumade" is
great too, probably a tie with the last one (I'm writing as
I listen.) That's fucking cool, that one. Would fit on eyes
of stanley pain even if given the right evil vocals. Shoju
is just as good as the last two. Some of your previous
tracks weren't as good as these IMO because the sound units
were too big and clumsy. I've made a few new things since
you last listened probably. My music is at
www.mp3.com/artificialselection if you feel like hearing it.

thank you so much for the feedback mW..I glad you like so
many of the tracks :) I actually took onboard a lot of your
constructive criticism on the brevious round of Marzipan
Dolphin tracks...yes..vocals is something I want to come
around to doing, but I guess I am just a bit lazy that
way....:)..yep I have always got time for your new stuff :)
in fact I going over to check em out now..and maybe place a
couple on the station..
cheers

hey mW i just d/l five of your tracks and am listening to
them right now...
()..()..()..etc....I really dig it..even without drums and
such..it's phunqy and phuq...
The Unfinished Nintendo Victory song...is pretty scary
actually...reminds of being trapped inside 3d version of
pacman with the monsters closing in..
the phonetic mimicry songs sounds like an extension of
it..but I think I heard them in reverse
order...sorry..love..the samples you are using :)..are they
mainly voice? quirkiest stuff ever!!
the blue crayons' got a very cool organ melody on and I like
the punchy bass jabs...
but Evolution is my favourite lot..I like all the dark
haunting melodies riding over the machine bursts and jabs..I
will use it on the station along with the blue crayons...
in one phrase...stuff of a toddler's melancholy
nightmeres...and I mean that as a biiig compliment :)

Yeah .. mint stuff.

Couldn't really say which was my favourite - perhaps
shinjuku pile up ? so hard to say .. when listening to the
next track it [in general] has tendency to sound even better
than the previous one .. and so on -

This stuff deserves respect!!

Salvador from Gluestick on 2001-11-19 23:37 [#00053618]

oh - and why does uploading take for ever? ;)

w...ww(wwMMww)ww...w on 2001-11-20 00:17 [#00053634]

My stuff is so low quality sounding, just listen to blue
crayons after you hear orange dust's 2nd song on your
station (lowfi play). Mine sounds like 1/4 the volume level
and the sounds sound stale like they came out of the
garbage. It sounds way better on headphones though I think.
Thanks for your very inspiring reviewish thingy. I am kind
of creating my own way of organizing sound, and I have
beginnings of stuff I havn't put on mp3.com that is further
along. I think I'd make way better stuff if I ever get
better equipment. If I could just amplify the volume of the
final mp3 or wav that would be good too.

f.l.e.a from doghole on 2001-11-20 19:51 [#00053904]

thank you so much Salvador..you are too kind...:)
mW...your stuff is good..accept it..your sound is slowly
becoming entirely your own...sound quality glitches are
minor...I always turn all meh levels up before recording
maybe that could sort out your level problems plus you get
very interesting textures when you amp up the samples, which
may not be ideal as most of your compositions are intricate
and delicately balanced..but it's worth a shot..the music we
make is about experimentation...hey other wise we will just
be churning out bog standard pristeen chart topping house
eh...

w...ww(wwMMww)ww...w on 2001-11-20 20:24 [#00053923]

Yeah, you might just as well listen to other people's music
instead of making an attempted near exact replica to listen
to. I can't really amplify sounds in modplug tracker. It's
retarded because visually the wav picture of the sound can
only get so big before it just cuts off the top and bottom
where it grew. They probably make something where you can
just amplify the final wav or mp3 though, but I'll just wait
until I get a new computer because this one is extremely
allergic to anything new.

f.l.e.a from doghole on 2001-11-20 20:36 [#00053925]

two words mW
fruity and loops...
trust me on this one..you don't know what you are missing!

w...ww(wwMMww)ww...w on 2001-11-20 20:49 [#00053927]

When I get my new computer, I'll probably gets a few
different programs to mess with, that one included. I've
never used it, it's a slight turn off because it's loop
based. But I've heard people make great stuff that isn't
really loopy with it, I don't know how it works I'll check
it out eventually (is that what you use mainly for your
tracks?). I really want to check out reaktor and reason too
as people say they are the best available today. I know
modplug tracker by heart, my music has evolved with it and
I've found many interesting tricks over time with it, that's
why I've been staying with that program mostly.

f.l.e.a from doghole on 2001-11-21 20:25 [#00054260]

to mW..hmm I hear yer hardware woes..me I am running out of
harddisk space and having to save all my stuff directly in
mp3 format :(..but in the interim..you could try downloading
a share/freeware wav editing suit like cooledit from
www.downloads.com or some such ..they are usually quite slim
and don't tax yer system much..save yer creation as a wav
and then take it into the suite and there you can put on a
ton of effects on it..fade in and out..even increasing the
levels and volumes etc...the amps and boosts are usually
pretty clean..I don't know its worth a shot if having low
recording volumes is a major concern...

Salvador from Gluestick on 2001-11-21 23:26 [#00054303]

can't you like change the id3 tag of the mp3? id3? um.. the
thing that contains the info about song name title etc. -
you can also amplify up to 100% which isn't that much, but I
guess might help u out.

?
