Forget all the iTunes hype (much as adore Apple and it's
style, you can fetishism too far..)...

Anyways...Nullsoft just rel'd the Beta 1 of WinAmp5...

Only been using for a small while, but it rapidly turning
into a LURVE thang :)...

http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/11/1/1/11-1-1-66.shtm... ...

Will be interesting to see the reaction to this....give it a
try and let us know what you think...

I've always had 3, is there somewhere I can revert to
version 2.xx? Is it recommended to do this? And what the
hell happened to version 4?

That's what I like...it's subtle...little things,
details...

Like I say, give it a whirl...it does everything old
faithful 2.xx does, but just a smoother, without bloating
shit out...

Here's a good analogy...it's like coming home and finding
someones tidied all your shit away & done the dishes...all
without asking...

hehe...I'm a one...;)...

faithful 2.89 (I think that's the versioin). It treats me
well.

iTunes takes less memory on my computer than Winamp 5.
iTunes takes something like 7mb and winamp takes 11mb. so i
prefer iTunes over Winamp

do it. Anybody else notice this?

yeah... something like that.
I only use it to play moosic/video.
With only basic plugins like pitchfork...
It works just fine the way it is. :)
It rarely crashes.

actually, they didn't fucking fix the fack that whenever i
select a batch of liles it enqueues the first on last, and
vise versa.

it was fixed in winamp3 *hmph!* : /

I think you can fix this by going like this:
Get into Preferences, then in the Playlist category, check
the box there that says "When loading multiple files, sort
by filename"

I agree in a way...2.xx has pretty much it all; especially
when coupled with the Music Library idea...

From my current impressions, it's at least as good....

But you know, check it out...everyone likes different UIs /
Skins etc.....

That's a pet hate of mine, media player does it as well... I
was trying to work out the reason why programs do this and I
really can't see why (I'm no programming genius, but I can
do sort algorithms etc. so if anyone would like to explain
to me how this happens I'd be grateful).

The skins for 2.xx sucked. The only good thing about them
was that you got a total playtime for the whole playlist

They skipped 4, JA...dunno why....

I suspect they'll do some sort of Stalinesque dissaperence,
a la retouched photos etc..:).. of Ver 3 in next couple of
months, just because it was SUCH an embaressment; I suspect
3 was more a AOL directed release than NULLSOFT would have
liked....

WinAmp 5 starts up MUCH quicker than WA3. However when you
have modern skins on it is still slower than winamp 2.xx,
but I think I'll sacrifice a minor decrease in speed to have
the winamp 3 eye candy. It'd be nice if they could imrpove
the speed of winamp 5 just a little more. (running 666MHz
machine with 384 MB RAM)

it does it because the first track you select becomes the
end of the list when you hold shift and click the last
track.. i've figured out how to do it properly, you just
select the last track first, then hold shift and click the
first track.. this will sort it properly

Badass visuals with Winamp 5.

You MUST listen to Second Bad Vibel (AE track) with the
"Marco - Amanita Muscaria open mind rmx" visual.

It is perfect for that song, reminds me of the video.

winamp 2 does the job perfectly well, so the question must
be asked do people really need winamp5.
If you prefer gimmicks then probably yes, however, the
systems usage of winamp2 is tiny, and will run off a pentium
1 easily, and with P4, Xeon, and clock speeds getting up
into the microwave freqencies, it doesnt matter as much.
All winamp needs to do is play as many filetypes as
humanly(or computerly?) possible, without a drain on the
host cpu, and to do it with a degree of stability so it wont
bring down all apps in a ten mile radius. i use cooledit
for all audio stuff, but winamp is good for playing songs
and dragging random files, e.g. NEW SAMPLE 1 which ive saved
from my sampler but forgotten what they are. winamp doesnt
need bells and whistles if you ask me!!

winamp.. the only reason i installed it is because i had
graphics problems with the old winamps..
