me with my messenger. it won't let me connect anymore. i
think it has something to do with proxy settings, which i
knore nothing about. i'm connected to dsl through a router
which splits connection between me and my roomy. the box
that says "I use a proxy server" is unchecked. please help
me.........i don't know what to do without my messenger. i
want to sleep forever.

try to connect to a clientless msn, like
www.wbmsn.net if you can maybe you should re-install msn.
Else there is something wrong with your passport?

I had problems connecting to MSN this morning. It kept
telling me that the service was incompatible with the
version of Messenger, or some such thing.
I downloaded an XP update (Windows Update, non critical
section - Windows Messenger 4.7 upgrade for something or
other) and it worked. Had to fiddle with the options
afterwards cos it reset my config, but that was the work of
60 seconds.

MS is on a mission as of yesterday to disallow third party
IM clients. Maybe it's effecting older versions as well...

in your internet explorer go to Tools, Internet options,
connections, LAN settings and check if you have a proxy
specified there.

If you do, copy your settings accross to msn

ive had this problem.

what you need to do is unplug your wires, slowly lift up the
computer and walk towards the nearest window. You may need
some assistance. Get your partner to open the window, and
without looking below, throw the machine as far out of the
window as you can.

thanks for all the replies, i really appreciate it. it
seems that my messenger decided to start working again.
however, my internet explorer doesn't work now. i've tried
reinstalling the newest version of ie, and even reseting the
default settings. now i'm stuck using netscape.
