technically, it isa verb, but in this case it's just another tired reference to the materialism that dominates the culture.. sad

as far as the first single goes... the beats are pretty decent... but the vocals aren't particularly impressive (on any level)

seriously though, as far as pop music goes, Rap is the worst imo... it just annoys me to no end all this crap "bling-bling" rap, and pimps and hoes shit... goodness, it's so overdone now... it was annoying in the first place, now it's just making me want to cut off all my limbs so I slowly bleed to death... God, why is it that all rappers know about is big butts, and hoes and whatever... all the best rap songs have meaning... the best songs to come around in the last while in my opinion are Where is the Love by Black Eyed Peas (even though it's ALWAYS on, it's still a good track) and that Eminem track which sampled the Aerosmith tune... those songs kicked ass because I didn't feel dirty and like a pervert listening to them... they're actually thought provoking... and sometimes I like to use my brain when I listen to music...
also, my favorite rap song is Changes by Tupac... that one rules because again, it has meaning... and it samples an awesome tune, The Way It Is by Bruce Hornsby...

shrug, I love the song... I meant one of the best rap songs, not songs in general, and I'm not a big fan of rap anyways, so the list isn't huge... I just really like it... plus I find that chick in the group really attractive!

Aaah, now we're getting down to it ;)
I don't like hardly any rap these days, I stopped listening to it all after Ice Cube's 'Lethal Injection'... I love the really violent, aggressive rap. A few groups perked my interest now and then - and while I don't listen to his albums I think Eminem's alright - but NWA and that stuff was the best for me.

the song / single on the radio right now is the usual stupid/funny song. Go listen to the rest of the cd before you make charasmatic judgements like that.
Go listen to song 4, Lady.
Heh

obie's got some nice tracks but almost all of them are nice because of the production and/or guest artists.. as all music guide said, he's the ultimate everyman or "average" emcee (for people who enjoy listening to average hip-hop) and it often seems like he's a guest on his own album among far superior talents.. "lady" is fantastic btw
anyway, about bling bling, sexist, aggressive, etc. rap, it all has its place.. listen to it or don't, but it's silly to wish they'd stop making something if it makes some people happy to create or hear it.. you should wish people would stop playing it or championing it as the greatest thing the genre has to offer
also, that BEP song, "where is the love", is dreadful, and i like some of their stuff. most candycoated "underground" hip-hop track i've ever heard. how anyone could take them seriously in that song is beyond me. will.i.am said in their defense that no one else has a top 10 single where they "tell the truth about terrorism" (see the lyric about the CIA) but they barely even graze the subject and the rest of the lyrics make me whince in their simplicity, mediocrity, pretensiousness, insincerity, and blatant commercialism

That Black Eyed Peas tune is absolute dog's piss. There are no decents beats and the lyrics are just a load of cliches clumsily strung toether. A load of PC sentiment that makes me want to puke my fucking ring. Yuk!

I am tired of rappers thinking they have something to say that I want to hear. Honestly, some do, but all I want to hear them talk about is fucking hoes, getting fucked up, fucking up other peoples shit and talking shit about other people.
I do NOT want to hear another song with some guy rapping about how much he loves his girlfriend or hates american foreign policy.
