i was wondering if in idm there is a sense of community
between idm artist or labels etc.. can you speak of a scene
in a sense ?

dumb question maybe, but being involved in hc/punk/.. with a
strong feeling of 'us vs them', i questioned myself if this
was the case with all musical subgenres..

most of the rephlex/warp/mu/skam/schematic artists often
tour together, remix and produce each other. it should be
safe to say that these activites constitute a scene.

I think the relatively small numbers of idm fans mean that
we only meet at gigs/festivals... it's not very common to
see a group of 5 idm fans in the park with a ghetto blaster
the way you do with rock fans/punks/goths etc.

I think that because we're small in number, there aren't
enough of us in our town to actually form a real world group
that can meet with any sort of regularity. I mean, I live in
the UK, which seems to have a comparatively high
concentration of IDM fans. Within about 12 miles of me there
are two more xlt board members, another 30 miles or so on
top of that there's another 4 from here and 1 watmm
member...

Compare that to kids into Emo- you must have at least 50 in
even the smallest of towns here.

We've got a nice online ''scene'' going, that's for sure.

there's a small but burgeoning scene here where I live - me
and my friends mostly. But my friend, the first one to
"publish" my stuff (2 of my songs on a cdr compilation)
managed to sell (or give away) 900 of these compilations BY
HIMSELF with no major connections or anything. He just
handed them out or sold them wherever he went to play or
when he went to record stores. Quite impressive.

There's a good scene in France right now too -
Tsunami-Addiction, Clapping Hands, and activesuspension all
share the same office, and they're building a massive scene
there.
