Should i purchase one of these or not? I am tempted as i am
an avid game player. Are the games worth it? Can someone
give me some insight?

Cheap console, decent control pad. There's a bunch of games
like Mario Sunshine now which are £20 new. The problem is
the second hand market just doesn't come close to the PS2 -
with PS2 games you can get stuff like GTA3 for £10 second
hand. Most GC stuff is like £30 second hand (for the good
stuff). Plus, there just aren't that many games that
interest me. If you have a PS2 already and have got a bit
fed up with it, then go for it.

some great party games on it, last weekend I had a lot of
fun playing "monkey ball" and "super smash brothers",
timesplitters is alright, but it's avaliable on other
systems metroid is a really nice game, and zelda is supposed
to be pretty solid,

I am already a proud owner of a PS2. From what i hear, i may
save my money.

As long as they keep pumpin' out the Final Fantasy games and
Metal Gear Solid's on PS2 then i shall be happy.

I dunno the second hand market for GC stuff isn't that bad
here. Cash generator put all games at £15 here. So, Burnout
(£10 new) is £15, but so is Splinter Cell..

There are a few really outstanding games on it, but it's
true at the moment if your the sort of person who buys a
game a week you may find a lack of quality releases. Good
games:

Supr Monkey Ball (I prefer 1, but 2 is good as well),

Soul Calibur 2 (available on other systems, but the general
consensus is that this is the best version),

Splinter Cell (not as good graphics wise as the xbox
version, but a better storyline and superb use of the GBA
link cable if you have a GBA...)

Metroid Prime,

Burnout is a good driving game- it lacks the depth of say
GT3 or Project Gotham, but as an arcade racer it's superb.
Best crash physics in any game as well...

As Refund said, some good party games, Mario Party 4, Smash
Brothers etc. which are good simple fun games- the sort of
things you can play with friends who don't normally play
video games.

F-zero GC is imminent which will be absolutely amazing if
the videos/magazine reviews/previous games in the series are
anything to go by...

Mario Kart is also near to release, but from what I've
seen/read I'll wait till I play it before buying it.

Gamecube is great. Just got Viewtiful Joe, it's a side
scroller, with very stylish graphics and old school
gameplay, I highly suggest it. Windwaker rocks also.
And don't forget F ZERO if your into amazingly fast racers!

My PS2 got a little old, Castlevania is the only game I'm
interested in.

i got a gamecube for zelda and ikaruga and i'm glad i did. :
)

even if zelda is a bit short it's a great game.
ikaruga is great too, if you like 2d shooters, don't miss
it... (if you can still find it!!)
soul calibur II as well.
and there are the resident evil series too.
and f-zero gc coming...

- now my brother already had a ps2 when i bought the
gamecube, and there are more games on ps2 that's for sure -
if i had to choose one between the two, i'm not sure which
one i would take.

Soul Calibur 2 was only supposed to be on the Cube (hence
the "Licensed by Nintendo" before the intro on every
version) and link actually has a weapon.

Super smash Bros... all the way!

I own a PS2 BTW.

couldn't afford that shit anymore.

The wireless controllers are well ace, and teh games are
good enough. I can't afford that shit anymore, but if you
can, go for it, nice system overall.

It's slim pickings compared to the PS2, but it's worth it.
Metroid Prime, Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Twin Snakes,
Resident Evil, all kinds of exclusive games that the PS2 and
Xbox will never see. It's worth it. And they just chopped
the price anyway.

You'll quickly exhaust its library of great games though.

The thing about the Gamecube - it's the only game system i
own right now - is that while it doesn't have the DVD
capability of Xbox or PS2, this is actually a good thing.
Nintendo didn't take the approach to an "entertainment"
system, they took an approach towards a gaming system.
Notice that a PS2 doesn't last very long because the
hardware is shit, and Xbox lasts about three times as long
as this, but my friends have already had to replace theirs
once, but that's because they used it to watch DVDs. A
Gamecube is built to last. I've had mine for almost two
years now and its never done me wrong once.

Plus, I don't know if you've noticed, but the games on PS2
lately are becoming of a lower and lower quality. And while
Microsoft is improving in terms of being a game company,
many japanese companies have little interest in developing
for it.

Gamecube however, seems to have the best of both worlds.
It's got decent incarnations of many quality third-party
titles, and its first party product is damn near
indestructable.

Plus they're very cheap now. :D

Your Playstations must hate you guys, cuz mine PSs have been
nothing short of sweethearts since 1996. You suck at life
and your hardware knows it and reacts accordingly.

There aren't many Gamecube games I'm after right now... The
Twin Snakes is the only one I really REALLY want. But I'd
need 7 hands to count all the PS2 games I've got to pick up.
The Fall of Max Payne and Final Fantasy X2 first and
secondmost!

Everyone seems to love the GC controller... whilst I think
it is the best of the three current systems, people don't
seem to mention its flaw: The position of the Z button.
Stupid, stupid way it's places and the concave shape of the
shoulder buttons mean that pressing it is as hard as the
Start button. It should only be used on menus IMO.
Thankfully most game designers have realised this and don't
assign z as anything important...

i needed quite a long time to get used to the GC controller,

(i still don't like how the L and R triggers are, though)

I LOVE the Gamecube controller! It looked ridiculous at
first glance but it fits like a glove. The Z button is
definitely foolish though. The C Stick is also strange, it's
like in an octagonal pit or something, it feels weird,
doesn't rotate smoothly.

I have the old Xbox controllers, with the buttons all
scrunched together and the Black and White buttons in an
awkward position. And I can barely get my hands around the
thing anyway.

word to that mappatazee.

ophecks, i'm sure you don't use your ps2 for dvd playing - i
know you're far too smart for that - =D
it's just a lot of people move theirs around, take them
places, and use them for DVD playing, which fucks them, but
obviously you take exceptional and proper care of yours. But
seriously, you're the only person I know who hasn't had to
replace their ps2 yet.

I like the Gamecube controller, but FUCK its microscopic
d-pad - it really irritates me because i prefer the d-pad
for same games.

And anyways, I've heard a rumor that Nintendo is going to
get the jump on Sony and Microsoft in the next system war,
apparently. But it's not like Nintendo is going to go away
anytime soon. They made the Game Boy - which has sold
millions (or billions) worldwide, being the best-selling
system ever, so Nintendo's pockets should be deep enough to
stay afloat for a while.

Yup, I treat my PS2 like a newborn baby!

I spilled chocolate milk all over my Gamecube once and now
the open button sticks, and sometimes the lid won't stay
shut. But that's my fault, not the hardware. I have poor
motor skills when I'm drinking.

And Nintendo's cash cow is definitely the Gameboy Advance,
so it's really going to be interesting to see how the
Pocketstation or whatever it's called fares. A portable
Dreamcast-quality system... yikes.

I'll always be a Nintendo fan, first and foremost... they
still make the best first-party games around... but Sony has
most of the big THIRD party names onboard putting their
flagship titles out for the PS2.

i figured as much - no wonder yours has lasted so long. mine
was actually doing well until my little brother started
watching dvd's on it. then it just went downhill from there
(i used it too for dvds a bit, though)

Nokia's N-Gage isn't going to last too long - the price is
too high, and classically the swiss-army knife notion hasn't
worked with gaming systems at all. As for the PSP
(Playstation Portable), it all depends on the price and
hardware quality. But personally, I don't think a portable
disc based system is going to be cheap at all.

Which reminds, a company (don't remember the name) actually
developed a working 3D gaming engine for the GBA, and the
graphics were of PSOne quality. It's a shame no one has used
it yet, but i could care less, cause i enjoy the oldschool
gaming action.

Nope... I didn't even know there was one! I've been looking
for Summoner for the PS2.

It seems Nintendo systems have been completey devoid of RPGs
since 1996. They get Square's second rate Final Fantasy
games now. Even the Xbox has Knights of the Old Republic and
Morrowind... and Fable is looking pretty cool.

I really wish that game cube was backwards compatible ie
played 64 games with an adapter, kind of like how it does
with game boy (although I still have my 64 less space is
ace). Soul Caliber II is great. I like the X-Men fighting
game also. I haven't gotten the Zelda game for game cube

i didn't like Majora's Mask though, i even gave up and i'm

of it, like Ocarina through a weird dream/nightmare...

...but Wind Waker is good! =)
not as good as Ocarina of Time...
but still well worth it.
