If you get a GC I'd wait for a bit before buying it. The
price will be coming down again soon (That's if it hasent
already)

k...straight from an X-employee of nintendo of america...and
pretty much a all around console v-game buff...

no.

all of the current decent games are on other platforms, and
the GC controller is CRAP! all it has going for it is
ergonomitry...

here's a list of somewhat decent games (IMO) that you'd miss
out on for a year till hackers emulate it...and a brief
reason WHY NOT TO BUY IT!

GAMES:
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (c'mon nintendo! that's a low
blow! rehashing zelda for the "new generation?" you guys are
worse then the tobaco industry..."we need to appeal to the
new gen of gamers 'cause our gamers are ...uh...dying..."
Super Mario Sunshine (you DON"T want this fuckign shelved N
FUCKIGN 64 game, re-hashed and graphically re-vamped for the
cube)
Soul Calibur II (get this for PS2!!!) unless the sight of
link makes you grow a big rubbery one...
Phantasy Star Online ([employs ,i>in living color's "men on
film" voicehated it...)
Mario Kart Double Dash (not tooo sure about this one,
actually, *shivers from the horrible flashbacks of the N64
release)
Resident Evil 0 (k, this is actually a game you'll
miss...sorry :)
Resident Evil 3
Metroid Prime (While it's probably the BEST game on the
current console arena graphically, how many times can you
back-track through the same world all in the vain of
"getting a new wepon to open the new colored door?" Here's
some NOA vocab for you kiddies: *wank*wank*)
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (awwwwww, luuuuk, it's
square-enix's attempt to hook the kiddies onto there FF
series...how cuuuuute)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (yeah, this is actually my
fav v-game of all time, and i'm gonna burn for saying this:
who the hell wants ANOTHER metal gear expansion?!!!!!
goddamn komani!!! you're turning into another capcom over
'ere!!!)

unless you have the mental prowess of a 12 yr old, i'd
sugest to stay away from the GC untill a bit later...then
you can lie to urself and claim you bought the used GC 5 -
10 yrs dwn the line fo

I'm buying a SNES again. Gonna get it tomorrow. I miss my
old SNES so much! I'm tired of just remembering it, i wanna
play with it again :-)

And you can get a pretty cheap used one quite easily. The
other day i caught myself contemplating wether or not i
should buy all those "super mario advance" games, which are
basically just the old mario-games. And then it suddenly hit
me: I just want to own a SNES again :-p

The one i'm buying comes with Super Mario World, Illusion of
Time, Legend of Zelda & Kirby's Funpack. + from other
sellers i've bought Mario World2, Unirally, Stuntrace FX,
Secret of Mana & Super Mario Allstars, all of which should
be arriving at my house in the next week. Now i just need to
find copies of Mario Kart, Starwing & F-zero and i'll have
everything i consider essential.

I'm also looking into finding a decent convertor that'll
allow me to play american games so i can finally get
to play Chrono Trigger. But i remember from when i had a
SNES before that alot of those converters were really crap
and would only play certain games :-/

Ohwell.

I also saw some adds for a Virtual Boy... i'm very
intruiged! If i can find one that is affordable i might buy
one of those too. Is anyone familiar with it?

damn - i would need the mario kart rom - and actually ZNES
was the first SNES emulator I went for, but I don't have the
latest DirectX so I can't use it - makes me SO angry.

on topic: i think if you are a nintendo-fan you should
definitly get a gamecube (altough if you were a
nintendo-fan, you would have probably gotten it already),
just for the chance to play Mario Sunshine, The Wind Waker,
Metroid Prime & F-Zero. (& mario kart, & kirby airride, etc
etc etc... all the wonderful nintendo-franchises).

But if you're just a casual gamer... well, than you can
probably live without it. Like alot of people have said
before in this thread, there aren't nearly enough games
being released for it. Quite dissapointing :-/

"although majora's mask really tried my patience and I
didn't get very far. The idea was good in concept but
annoying in execution.
"

"i didn't like Majora's Mask though, i even gave up"

Nooooo!!! Aaaack! You're all so wrong!! :-p

I recently replayed the game, and it was just fantastic! It
might just be my favourite zelda-game (altough i think
Ocarina, Majora & Wind Waker are all about equally good,
it's a very close tie).

"i didn't like the ambiance of it, like Ocarina through a
weird dream/nightmare...
"

I kind of agree with that part. It's probably because
there wasn't enough time to create an entire new world and
graphical engine, so they had to re-use alot of things from
OoT. But once i started playing and made it through the
whole 3-day-cycle a couple of times, i completely forgot
about that, and became totally involved in the game. It's
just amazing. All the storylines are so detailed... much
more so than in any other zelda-game.

There's gonna be another one of those gamecube bonus-discs
that will have the two original nes games + OoT + Majoras
Mask. So now everyone will finally get a chance to play it
:-) Even Ophecks!

Yeah man, GEEZ I need to play Majora's Mask... Uzim said it
was like a nightmare version of Ocarina, ''ambience''...
that appeals to me. Someday soon.

As for emulators, I use SNES9x for SNES, RockNES for NES,
VisualBoy Advance for GBA and Gens for Genesis. Gens and
SNES9x aren't very flashy, and that's what I like about
them.

I would use that to buy a couple ps2 games that are coming

i think the gamecube is the best of the current consoles
because it has fun looking games. of course it is the only
current generation system i own and i haven't bought a game
in over a year because the video game industry sort of sucks
right now, but i still play super smash brother melee quite
regularly.

playstation 2 really doesn't appeal to me at all (seriously,
NONE of its games look any fun to me), and the only thing
that looks interesting to me is its mp3 in the game support
and that one racing game made by whoever made metropolis
street racer for dreamcast (i loved that game!). and who
the hell cares if their video game console plays dvds? (well
maybe if you don't have a dvd player you would). its just
like the cd player built into playstation, did you ever use
that?

sorry if that sounded too harsh, its just i really really
hate the video game industry right now, probably because
"they" killed my dreamcast... :(

oh and maybe slightly off topic i think n64 deserves much
more credit than it gets, it had the biggest good:bad game
ratio and the perfect controller design.

actually pigeon st, the GC is now $99, plus many of GC's
better games have had their price reduced - I know Metroid
Prime is only $30 now, and I think a few others have had
their prices slashed.

btw, when you get a memory card, get a memory card 256, not
a 56. the 256 is only 5 bucks more and its five times as
big. the wavebird controllers aren't too expensive either
considering the highway robbery prices you'd pay for a
wireless control on another system.

"i prefer quality over quantity as well."

Well i agree, but alot of the big Gamecube titles are also
lacking in quantity in my opinion (in other words, the games
are too short! Mario Sunshine, The Windwaker, Pikmin,
Luigi's Mansion, Wario World... it seems nintendo is
determined to make all their games last shorter with less

Yeah, i'm amazed at how last these batteries can actually
last! It's amazing!

I bought a bunch of SNES-games today. Including mario world,
which was ofcourse a launch-title so one of the oldest SNES
games (nintendo 1990-1991 it says on the title screen)...
and the save-system works just fine :-)

"5 year lifespan, ha waht do they know! :)"

Yeah! That guy who wrote all those manuals is full of shit
;-)

Still... one day they it is bound to stop working... Have
you ever attempted to replace one of those batteries? I
found a site that describes how, but it looks kinda
complicated. (quote: "Batteries are sometimes soldered in
place which doesnt make it any easier.
"). But i'll
probably still try it once one of my batteries run out. I
also emailed Nintendo about it, and they said they'd happily
replace the batteries for me... for 20 euros per game! :-p
Greedy bastards.

Okay, so i don't actually really know a game called Elite i
must confess :-p

But 200+ hours of gameplay sounds like alot of work...
hehe... i hope the batteries will last you long enough!

The thing i'm mostly worried about are the games where the
batteries actually unlock stuff. Like the 150cc cup in
mariokart. Or the last tournament of F-zero. If i remember
correctly Stuntrace FX, the first time you play it even
starts with some sort of a testcourse before you play the
actual game itself! Imagine having to play through that
every time you want to drive a few courses :-/

*gasps* You've never heard of "Elite"?! The game that the
term 1337 comes from?!

It's a classic old game, originally on the bbc, then pc.
Space Trading in a huge game universe... Look it up on
emulation, David Braben (author) made the rom freeware some
years back and according to him (I tend to agree) the Nes
version is the best.

Yeah... Mario Sunshine doesn't have enough worlds, and the
worlds aren't varied enough. The tropical shit can get on my
nerves. Windwaker, well... you know how I feel about that.
And Wario World is another disapointment, a retarded gibbon
could beat that game.

Nintendo is sputtering right now, the new Star Fox looks
underwhelming and the new Mario Kart has been bashed for
being way too slow... thank God Metroid Prime 2 is a go,
they're gonna need all the killer aps they can get with Halo

"The tropical shit can get on my
nerves.
"

Hm... well i wouldn't mind a tropical theme... but for me
the game looks too "modern" and too realistic. Mario in an
airplane? That's just not right. And Delphino Plaza with all
those realistic buildings... it reminds me of that horrible
"mario is missing" game :-/
I won't even mention the hotel-level which i hated!
Mario is supposed to wander around in magical
fantasy-landscapes :-) Green grassy hills and stuff like
that. He seemed so out of place in Mario Sunshine.

I still love the windwaker... but it could and should have
been at least 2 or 3 times bigger and longer. I love
what Nintendo were trying to do, and they succeeded with it
for 99% imo... but it just feels unfinished. I can't help
but wonder what the game would have been like if they'd
spent another year developing it!

I haven't even played wario world yet... every review i've
read talks about it easiness and shortness :-/ I'll just get
a used copy in a few years.

Some people say Nintendo is spending most of their time and
energy at this moment to secretly already work on new titles
for their next console. I actually hope those rumors are
true, because i'd hate to see the same thing happening to
them that happened to Sega. They need another really
succesful console with lots of great and challenging
games!

But i won't get too excited about it before i find out what
type of game it actually is :-p I've read it's basically
just a "graphical novel", with a few very straighforward
shooting-levels thrown in. That'd be so dissapointing! The
graphical engine is awesome, i hope they do something nice
