't is!

made me laugh out loud quite a few times - not an easy task,
I can tell you.

and as I said, the animation is incredible. the combination
of 2D and 3D is almost seamless (quite a great feat!).

what I also love is the edge in the film - there some nasty
stuff going on in places, which makes it bittersweet. subtle
and good.

yeah it was great. i love how it is basically a silent
film, the entire story portrayed visually. i like how you
can tell so much about each character just by examining the
way they were drawn.

and the music was good.

it had the song which should've won the Oscar..
although they did the english version, while the singer of
the french version is more fun.

i agree it was a much better song. but i think the academy
was doing a little extra back-patting considering the
unprescedented scale of LOTR.

the gangsters with the square shoulders in the trailer.
Looking forward to seeing this.

i think the story is fantastic. especially considering the
entire thing is presented clearly with virtually no
dialogue.

i saw this about a month ago and didnt enjoy it at all.
yeah, the animation was really incredible, but in terms of
story and making sense it was in the toilet. my opinion is
that its a weird movie thats getting all this accliam
because people are afriad that if they dont like it people
will say "oh, you just dont get it." etc. etc.

the disney/dali short they showed before it was spectacular
though, the animation and images were great. this is what i
think bellville could have been, since they didnt even try
to tack on some kind of story.

it did have a pretty basic storyline, which is amusing and
whimsical, but the storytelling (the manner in which the
story is told, through the highly stylized animation) is the
star of the show. i thought it was very engaging and
entertaining and despite its influences very original.

not earthshattering or life-altering, just a lot of fun.

offline hedphukkerr from mathbotton (United States) on 2004-03-05 11:15 [#01100074]

i just didnt like the fact that there put in alot of weird
shit for no reason, like *spoiler* why the fuck were
the triplets eating frogs?! and what were the bikers being
used for? WHAT THE FUCK!?!??!

yeah the Dali thing was pretty cool. it was also nominated
for an oscar.

you ought to try watching it again, if you didn't quite
understand it the first time. i agree that part of what
makes it good is it's ambiguity though. But i think the
intent of the film-maker was to force you to pay attention
to detail. If they wanted to just lay the story out to you,
they could have written dialogue. but you are meant to
comprehend the story visually.

so in short, yes, i agree that "not getting it" is part of
"getting it."

i think the old lady's were just eating frogs because they
were fucking poor. they are so poor, they didn't have any
use for a refrigerator, so they play it like an instrument
instead of storing food in it.

The bikers were being used in a virtual reality type toure
de france race. and the people were betting on who would
win.

in my opinion when a director/writer/whatever does that, it
just smacks of laziness. if youre gonna have weird imagery
in your art, at least have it mean something

so the bike betting thing is apparently what the mob does.
and like Marcelas Wallace, rigging fights with Butch in Pulp
fiction, The little mob boss guy rigs these races.

see? it's like Pulp Fiction. so it's cool! right?

it's a little unfair to judge a movie that you didn't
understand though. you ought to at least give it another
viewing and see if that clears up any confusion.

i had a teacher in high-school that always said, "you
haven't read a book once untill you've read it twice." i
think that also applies to movies. unless, of course, they
are really fucking bad. but i don't thing Triplets
falls into that category.

i will probably watch it again sometime and see what i think
of it then, but im not about to shell out the $10 it would
cost to do that at the moment.

now that you mention it, maybe i should watch jurassic park
3, im sure that movie only gets better the more times you
watch it

It wasn't hard to undetstand at all, it has a very simple
story line, This was it's downfall. The animation was
brilliant, the soundtrack was good. The old woman was
annoying.

just a little gentle teasing, hedphukker.

i'm sure if you watch it again, you will realize that the
story is actually pretty clear and simple. maybe your mind
was wandering during your viewing.

no movie will be universally well received, obviously; my
wife didn't like it nearly as much as i did, she thought it
was a little tedious.
