it's weird...

how i can tell that for example, if i could choose how much
happiness and how much beauty i'd like in my life, i'd trade
some happiness for some beauty and wouldn't choose 100%
happiness...

also how some people would prefer truth to happiness...

isn't happiness what we're all striving for? ' _ '

probably, people think that truth and beauty are ways to
give them more happiness than just choosing happiness could
give them... - but if i could choose 100%, maximal
happiness, cannot get any more - i'd still trade some for
beauty... is my mind defect? (well, yes, it is, but... you
know what i mean : P) can't i even imagine the
concept of maximal happiness, do i refuse it?

or... are beauty and truth forms of happiness by themselves?
maybe... it may be just to "vary the pleasures" that we may
want to trade some happiness for beauty or truth (or
something else that is not happiness)... but... if beauty is
some form of happiness, then what is it that we call simply
"happiness"?

^
the kind of rubbish questions i'd ask myself, and someone
will just say one sentence explaining it all, or explaining
why it doesn't make sence, etc. so simply and like an
evidence, and either i won't understand it, either i'll be
disappointed by the explanation, and anyway i will feel
stupid. meh. =/

will go to eat and wash myself now.

If someone is genuinely happy you see it in their face. And
that makes them beautiful.

Uzim, i think you have answered. Beauty isnt how society has
defined it..its how you see it and youre beautiful :)

according ...
IE : "I want a girlfriend!" go get one
"I want a lot of money" Go steal some or get a nice job
"I wish I didnt live here" MOVE.

You have the power to do what you want. Beleive me...

Choosing 100% happiness might get a little boring after a
while - not that you'd know though, since you'd be happy
about it. I assume that by choosing 100% happiness you'd be
happy in any situation you're in, therefore it would be
independent of any external variables. Beauty and truth are
most likely to be found in things not of yourself (though
they could be found in yourself; however, this could just be
viewed as happiness as it really doesn't differ much - it's
all internal). By finding beauty and truth from external
sources, you take part of them and add them to yourself,
causing growth and change, which could add to your
happiness. I think that choosing to have a bit of truth and
beauty is a more honorable approach as it shows that you
wish to grow as a human as opposed to remaining static as
might be the case if you chose 100% happiness.

i just want to be a musician, and have some people respect
me for it. That's all. And perhaps someone else to share my
happiness with.

what if your happiness causes other people pain?

that's a good point - if you get happiness from murdering
people, then maybe happiness isn't the road for you.

Then :

-you don't care because you're happy anyway.
or
-you stop being happy and the problem is solved.

(I mean : "you stop being happy because you see the others'
pain")

but how long can you turn your back on your own happiness if
it is within your reach?

100% non-stop happiness would be like having a lobotomy...
there would BE no truth, and no real beauty (as there would
be nothing to compare it with)... it'd be a disturbing way
to exist, put it that way.

I think it depends on why the other humans are feeling pain.
If they're feeling pain because they're jealous of your
happiness or by some other indirect fashion then I see
nothing wrong with what you're doing - their pain is a
result of their selves. Though, if you are directly hurting
them and deriving your happiness from that then you're most
definitely wrong as you're directly contributing to the
unhappiness of others, just as it would be wrong (unfair) if
someone else caused you pain in order to obtain their
happiness. I'm sure if you explored (with an open and
healthy mind) every other existing activity or idea, you can
find something else you can achieve happiness with other
than hurting people - it might not be the easiest or most
accessable option, but it is the most fair as just as you
hold your freedom to be happy as important, others do too;
therefore they should not interfere with each other as it
could decrease the chances of each.

dariusgriffin > but the most often, it is something
in-between... unless you're totally altruist, or
totally egoistic... you're quite happy but you have
scruples, you can't deny your happiness but still feeling
guilty...

its a tricky question cause theres two ways to look at
happiness

as it being a peak, or, as something more deep seated.
theres a challenge in there :)

thats why its something to strive for. a more meaningful
happiness than a fleeting encounter

tedious and fragile.

But don't some people derive hapiness from their own pain?

Is it really pain if it makes you happy? In my opinion,
deriving happiness from your own pain is just fine - it
affects only you.
