yay or nay ?

i vote for nay - this whole speaking that every autechre
song has it's own mathematical equation is pure bullshit for
me.
discuss.

music

but music = math, nah

music :)

Everything in some way ties in with mathmatics, including
the algorithims we use to write music so i guess yay but
feeling and talent help.

Music software works because of algorithims which are
programmed by the software designers, to make fruity loops
and all other software do what it does.

do you really doubt that math is part of music?

I mean... its gonna be hard for me to explain in english,
but if I have to I will

Even the way the music is placed is matmatical, to the
spacing and beats to the bar and pretty much the whole
technical side of it.

certainly part of it

math

culture is law.

I'll vote 'yay' anyways.

music is sport
come gather round the court
come sweat and scream for your favourite team
as you cheer and down a beer
you think they're looking like they could be back in form
this year;
they're sporting all the name gear

they got the shoulder-smacking corporate-backing
lights ablaring things are happening
you see the media sacarin glistening on their tongues
they'll be climbing up the rungs to the top of the industry
echelons

keep it going on cos they didn't just come to play they came
to win
pros like them know losing is a sin
and when it comes down to handling their balls
these boys'll give it their all from hand to eye
down the line super fine control
backhand forehand underhand power plays
they'll be leaving all the opposition in a stunned daze

fast man
they leave the rest behind
you find they always have the last laugh
as the crowd roar

music is sport

the fests are the test they're like the musical olympics
or like grand final meets without the seats
it's band vs. band in an action packed day of non stop play
off
where's the fucking pay off?

one gets the mic
one makes the pass
one executes the play
time for a mexican wave

crowd goes wild for racket skills
i teach lessons in regression but it sure don't pay the
bills
what the hell we hitting for?
record companies keeping score;

trying to get those shiny plaqued trophies for the office
wall
pumping out the hits to feed the media blitz
now watch the swollen champs blow the champers on bikini
clad tits
busted through a banner backstage

high five and then we pray to god;
before we play to the throbbing mob
so if you're ever on the sideline or sweating on the court
just remember my friends

music is sport

yay... all music can be broken down into some mathematical
representation of it's composition and arrangement. this
doesn't take anything away from it's emotional appeal
though, because anything can be represented though figures
and numbers in one way or another.

music is a bit of math, but that's mainly for technical
explanations purposes, or for rythm making with machines...

if it was only maths, music would be the most boring shit on
earth, and i don't think it is

and everything is not math, the point is math is there to
put numbers on life's phenomenon, so it's not really that
"everything is math", more like "math explain everything"
i don't specially agree with that but you can see my point

they say exposure to classical music like mozart can lead to

I love Claudia!

On topic, music isn't math. Nothing is anything, except what
it is. Everything may be ''easier understood through
numbers'', but we really don't understand shit anyway. So
just turn off your brain and forget any equations when
you're making it or listening to it (except time signatures)
and you're fine.

Math teachers suck, guitar teachers rock.

agree entirely, so yey is what i have to say...

i also think when people make music it's inevitable they
begin to think 'mathematically', even if they don't quite
realize this... making music itself is a kind of
subconscious calculation. even improvising involves some
'calculating' and 'planning'.

so music is math, and the whole life is just about loops...
day and night, winter and spring...ups and downs...
*sighs*
