What hardware and Software do you need to hook up an
electric guitar to a computer? An what are the costs
involved?

A someone I work with says their son is interested.

youve got to have an amplifier, and maybe some real time
distortion fx thingey (audiomulch)

There are a few ways of going abouts it.
AMPLITUDE and a line in cable (6$) or a POD LINE 6.
The Pod is a real time Amp mod meaning that you will here
the result while playing. Amliptude is an after effect
menaing that you can only apply the effect after. I am realy
realy stoned.

uhhh... you'll need some sort of way to input the signal to
the computer... a soundblaster platinum card with the live
drive has about every input/output you could want on it...
for fairly cheap.

other than that as far as hardware... a guitar and a cord...
and speakers i guess.

as for software... i agre with jaroen... cool edit pro. but
i'm sure there's tons of other programs out there you could
use to record/edit.

puting a guitar straight into a pc will generally sound
shit.

your better off miking up the amp and doing it that way. the
louder the better!
