This doesn't answer your question, but he was utter
gash
when I saw him live. It wasn't just that I didn't
like or "didn't get" what he was doing. What he was doing
was just utter cack. It honestly sounded like someone who
has never used music software before and has no real
interest in music just dicking around with a copy of
Audiomulch for the first time.

Perhaps his studio stuff is different, but I'd give his live
stuff a miss if his ATP 2003 performance is anything to go
by.

And before the Hecker fans turn up and start flaming me, I'm
*not* the only one who thought this...

Several people I spoke to at ATP had a similair opinion and
look what this atp review had to say:

"Upstairs - the laptops

The feel upstairs, while more eclectic, experimental and
live, still became a little samey after three nights. The
highlights were great, but a number of rather dull and
pretentious laptop acts managed to creep onto the line-up.
Take Hecker for example - a tedious little bloke who treated
us to a half-hour-long wasp noise from his iMac. The idea
that this kind of music's impenetrability somehow makes it
intellectual and worthy is something which needs to be
challenged, I feel - the fact the vast majority of the crowd
didn't 'get' it doesn't make them stupid, but makes the
music fucking shite. Pretentious to the max, elevating the
electronic process over and above musical content, and
avoiding any kind of impact on the listener whatsoever, save
mild annoyance. "

ceri, if you're talking about ATP, that was hecker, not tim
hecker.
tim hecker (mille plateaux) is quiet, glitchy/ambient noise
kind of stuff
hecker (mego) is the guy you saw at atp, annoying noise
shit

i rate tim hecker actually, really enjoyable stuff, check
out his album "radio amor" to see what i mean

the other hecker (i think it's his brother) releases stuff
like sun pandamonium which i find difficult to like

btw, there's a video of his live performance on sonar this
year (which was one of my best musical experiences ever,
tim's brilliant music + all those people just chilling there
- must have been like over 40 C that day - thats what music
is all about)
here's the site address

Tim Hecker is nice...very nice...the only "noise" music I'll
listen to.
here check this track of him. it more noisy then his other
stuff but damn....it's awsome.
