Playing Avril 14th on piano

Has anyone ever learnded or tried to learn Avril 14th? I'm
trying to learn from the midi I have, but some of chords in
the section that starts around 1 min 25 would appear to be
physically impossible to play... Namely the 6th chord in
this sequence: a C being the highest note, then, not the
next octave down but the one after that, an A sharp (so far
alright) and even lower a D sharp (not possible). Try it
penists, it is not for the hand of man. What do I do? Is
Aphex a piany playin frawd? Or do he gots another arm?

You do need a damned big handspan... I can't play but I can
read sheet music and pick out individual chords etc. and I
could (just) reach it, took a few attempts mind without
hitting the notes on the inside of each of the two
extremities. I have and large hand span too. Methinks he
invested in a Yamaha Disklavier or something similair
though...

I thanks you and I see your name speaks the truth of you,
although your search was almost as entirely fruitless as
mine and contained almost exactly the same words, hence I
did not need your ploppy help at all. Good day.

All I want to know is if anyone has succesfully played it,
and if they have how they got around the long finger
requirement. I'm literrally inches from playing it, but my
little finger is starting to ache and I feel it may start to
turn black soon.

Have you considered using a 1/2 or 3/4 sized keyed
keyboard/piano?

I know the music to avril 14th and kesson daslef - they're
not interesting enough to play on the piano - maybe on a
cheap casio keyboard from 1988.

there was an articale on warprecords several months ago,
about how all the piano pieces on drukqs, where played with
an automated piano... hooked up to his sequencer.... so...
that probably answers everything.

(but that chord is possible... just for people with
freakishly large hands...)

wont be exact... but itll still function the same

Didn't anyone notice what I said?

"Methinks he
invested in a Yamaha Disklavier or something similair
though..."

(for those of you not in the know a Yamaha Disklavier is a
midi controlled piano!)
:)

I thank thee helpful foke, and Mr Recycle, honestly, thank
you but I don't want the midi of the track that is all taken
care of good day yes?

It's propper annoying though, I'll have to move it up an
octave and it sounds a bit weak... its a shame for the first
4 chords sounds so lovely on a reverbed up pyano.

apart from the rather large handspan required to play this
track properly, this track is also not the easiest in terms
of left/right syncopation. not impossible but it sounds a
lot easier than it really is.

offline big from lsg on 2003-10-07 13:06 [#00893262]

no i dont find it that easy sounding
how about kesson dalef, that's the one i wanted to ask
about, sorry
i thought that'd be played live, due to the easy left hand

so why do i think there's a metronome running along with
avril 14th, up to the breaks exactly, mind you, is that the
piano hammers (you hear everything really good (nice that
is)) or the cyborg arms or a sample of a metronome (like the
wsss over the guitar in that prodigy song their law, without
the following guitar: in both cases not needed)?

I've tried to play a few of the drukqs tracks on piano, but
it usually ends up sounding very thin and disjointed. Then
again, I suck at piano.

I could more or less play Avril 14th and Kesson Daslef. I
downloaded the sheet music and gave it a whirl. It's not
impossible but it's certainly a tricky situation. Try moving
your fingers further up the keys. That helps me with a long
stretch. I also have big hands so I'm at an advantage there.

offline Dannn_ from United Kingdom on 2003-10-07 16:08 [#00893485]

I'm pretty sure almost nobody could play that chord as it is
on the midi... but then again... Anyway I'm definetly not
capable of it myself.

I used the JPG files of the scores that were floating about
a while ago and plugged them into Sibelius - a) to neaten
them up a bit, and b) to check that they sounded right.

I've played the first dozen bars of Avril 14th, but never
got as far as the finger-stretching bit (I suck on the
piano).
