i know i've seen a few people comment on this GEM of a
movie, but i didn't see a topic about it.

i LOVED this movie!!! what a surprise you say, NO! not true.
ehehehhe

this was one of those movies that leaves you feeling
uplifted and transported to a magical place of beauty thats
so different from your own experience that it's like
discovering a new country with fascinating customs and
beautiful people.

i hope people take the time to go see this movie, it's a
feel good movie and quite out of the ordinary.

TWO thumbs up!!

i saw it over a month ago.

it was indeed a good film. very real; no tacky acting or
special effects.

i'm sure it will be available for RENT! make sure and check
it out if you can. i'm hoping it gets released on DVD, it's
one of those movies that i'd love to own. the music is great
as well, lots of native singing.

you're right pachi, it seemed like REAL people to me, not a
fake moment in the entire movie. that young actress was soo
pretty and talented. i hope she gets to act in a lot of
other GOOD movies!

actually, yeah i saw it and it's very nice, i like "rabbit
proof fence" a tad more, just for the sake of those rare
beutiful moments both visually and lyriclly. There young
girl from whale rider was asked in an interview if she'd
like to act again and she menitoned something about being a
regular person, and not dealing with crowds. so yes, these
actors are in tune with thier charcters in that they do live
the lifestyle to certain extent. igu

this film is also, i running joke for my friends and I,
cause everytime we see each other, we ask one another if
they have seen it yet because my girlfiend was forced into
seeing it like four or five times due to one reason or
another. hehe.

areyou guys serious? I saw this in the theatre and said to
my friend that we should go see it as a joke... not being
serious at all... doesn't sound too appealing to me
personally...

as far as rabbit-proof fence... I didn't like the movie
much, but the soundtrack is awesome!

et al. for serious fun.

funk! you should REALLY give this movie a chance. it's
something that will really make you feel great after
watching it! not many movies can do that.

rabbit proof fence and it's soundtrack are brill as
well.......i need to get that soundtrack!

you aussies have a lot of interesting stories to
tell......Gallipoli is another of my favourite movies from
down yonder as well. i like learning something new about
different parts of the world. i think all three of these
movies open your eyes to things that not familiar.

"once we were warriors" is one of the saddest films i've
ever seen.. it's NOTHING like "the crocodile hunter"!!!

damn i totally forgot that movie.....and i couldn't agree
more. this movie also deals with the maori people, but in a
more uplifting way.

Once We Were Warriors is a must see!!!

i just saw the whale rider and i liked it a lot...
its very very cool there are depressing and uplifting
moments cos if it was only depressing stuff it would be just
too much to take hehe
i loved those scenes where her uncle is teaching her one one
side, and then those emotional scenes with her grandfather
on the other...

no need to mention how bautiful new zealand is :)

and i saw "once were warriors" for couple of times already,
and will probably see it again cos it is another great film

Well I work at a movie theatre so I get to go for free, but
I don't thionk we even have this movie right now. If we get
it later on, I'll probably check it out.. I've been watching
so many depressing movies lately I need something uplifting,
methinks.

hehe, now you're making me trudge up the memories! =P

I dunno, I've just been watching movies like Requiem for A
Dream, Blow, and the like. Generally movies about people's
dreams being ruined and their lives fucked up.. you know,
feel good movies =D

i'm SO glad you were able to CATCH this film!!!

i bought the DVD, it's a fantastic movie i was so surprised
by how it affected me. i loved the soundtrack and thought
about getting it, but after seeing the review on amazon
decided it was better just to get the movie since apart from
the movie visuals the soundtrack would be wanting!

key....i have NO idea what you're talking about....

Yes I saw it and it was moving. I think the score made a
huge difference though and it did pick up as the movie
progressed.

I think I've become a bit movie numb these days as the more
movies you watch the less impact the whole experience seems
to have.

btw i'm looking for two of your threads as i listened to TWO
not just one of your tracks!!! =0) review to come

well, i didnt notice music that much, it goes very nice with
the senes (visuals) from what i can remember, im certanly
going to pay more attention to music when i watch it next
time (i have it on divx hehe) and see if i dig the
music...lately i bought quite some soundtracks/scores so
perhaps i might like this one as well.
i remember music fitting really well to those scenes of
whales under water - just excellent...
i read some info after seeing the film, and apperantly that
young actress is only 13 years old!?, which is really
surprising cos she was excellent, especially in that scene
where she has the speech (she wrote for grandfather) infront
of those people...

she was EXCELLENT, and it's apparently her FIRST film.

i loved learning more about the culture.....and the first
thing after seeing the movie i wanted the soundtrack. i
almost ORDERED it that day, but again the review made me
reconsider.

i love WHALE song....and i guess thats one of the things
that really caught my attention.

Lisa Germanno (spelling) sang the end song, she's the woman
that sang that beautiful song on the Gladitor Soundtrack! i
recoginzed her voice too.

try and locate them.

trax I've posted up. I can't find the original threads
either but if you can that'd be excellent.

Its Lisa Gerrard that did the soundtrack, she's done quite a
few and she used to be in the band Dead Can Dance (on 4AD
records - Coctea Twins etc)). Her music is amazing, if you
liked her music for the film definately check out her other
works.

this film was pretty decent.... the little girl was probably
one of the best young actors i've ever seen... and it was
pretty... nothing fantabulous, but definitely worth seeing

well, i prefer substance over quality, but yeah, im sure dvd
is way better, if only it wasn't that expensive :(
anyway, i saw it in the teathre the first time and i usually
decide whether im going to get the dvd or not the first time
i see a flick...in this case i decided not to get it :)

i prefer seeing art as the artist wants it to be seen.

the theatre argument cancels everything out, though.
