i've met moog. shaken his hand and all that. he lives real
near here, and spoke at my college. he still used 'hip' a
lot in his presentation. he was cool.

he'll let you look around his warehouse and shit if you go
there.

Near impossible to find. Completely original tracks sound
along the lines of "Selected Ambient Works vol 1."

it HAS to be a fake

only if you believe everything you read.

If I had to compare it to something it would be AB5

It's MP3s burned to a CD for various reasons:

1) Only 11 tracks - the actual cassette (which I have)
copies have 12 tracks.
2) None of the tracknames have titles (that we know of,
except for Fingerbib and Logon Rock Witch, which ended up on
the RDJ album.

There is more than 1 MFM cassette in existance... several
were given to friends at WARP and Rephlex in late 1995. The
RDJ Album then comes out in 1996. Each has 'melodies from
mars' written in marker on the cassette label by Richard
himself.

If anything, the tracks sound like RDJ Album era stuff, as
that's when he made them and they ended up on the MFM
cassettes and on the RDJ Album, although there are a few
tracks on there that seem to come from 1994 as they have
appeared on other cassettes I have...

Would you be willing to donate one of these cassettes for
educational purposes? Seeing as it is highly unlikely one
would ever be sold. I shall say a word to no one.... :)
I wish i had all that yummy AFX stuff.

it's not that good anyway... well at least in my
opinion... it was intended to be the soundtrack for a video
game if i remember?

anyway i got it (thanks to Inverted Whale among others)
after long months of waiting for an occasion, it's
sympathetic but not amazing : )

i made a custom cover for it too.

I emailed the seller a couple times... he swears up and down
that its an "original" promo cdr and not burned from mp3s.

I still think it's fake though.

it's certainly no richard d james album... but it's still
cool all the same... there's some really cool dance tracks
on here though... some tracks that i'd really like to see
tear through a dancefloor... particularly track 5... that
track is masssive twisty shit...

"...so take it from there as usual"

i've asked you this before, a long time ago, but since the
mp3's have already made their way onto the net years ago,
will you ever do clean rips of your originals of MfM and
AB5?

track 11 is cut off on the remastered versions...it is only
1:09 instead of the full 1:30...not too big of a deal, but it
cuts the song off before it fades

offline Mezher on 2003-10-03 11:17 [#00888217]

actually i meant track 10... anyway, about the videogame
thing,i read an interview with mike paradinas that said it
was music he created for a game that was not accepted for
the game. richard was going to release it on his own as a
follow-up to i care because you do,but instead he just made
the richard d james album and put fingerbib [from melodies
from mars] and logan rock witch, which was a demo for
melodies from mars. the rumor, which may or not be true,is
that it was a final fantasy game

offline aquagak from Berlin (Germany) on 2003-10-03 11:50 [#00888242]

the game thing sounds maybe true but the final fantasy thing
pppft!

Mezher: The remastered version is from an MP3 source then,
as the cassette version fades properly (unless they recorded
it from the cassette and inadvertantly cut it off but
considering they would go through the trouble of remastering
it, why wouldn't they go back and re-record it?

Tits: You know better than to ask me these things
publically...

what difference does it make if the mp3's are already out
there? besides, i could ask you in person and you'd still
say no, i don't think you want to do it..

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2003-10-03 12:59 [#00888307]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

The difference is it is still copyrighted material that, the
more it's pirated around in mass numbers, the less incentive
RDJ/Rephlex has to release it. Even if they don't release it
ever, it's not my right to distribute MP3s of their work
without their permission.

You don't know how to read between the lines...
