DJ Shadow VS. Amon Tobin

I think they're BOTH sampling geniuses.

Isn't it also weird that they're white dudes in a 'black
game' ?

(You can take whatever you want out of that statement)

My vote has to go to...

DJ Shadow.

Endtrouducing... always gives me NEARLY as many shivers as
Kid A (favourite record of all time). And I still think that
The Private Press will be considered slept upon before the
end of this decade.

I did enjoy most of Supermodified, though...

dj shadow is the MAN. but so is amon tobin. i give them a
draw since they're different types of music.

it'd make more sense to compare dj shadow to, say, rjd2 or
something. and compare tobin to someone like >[]. i think
those pairs of artists have more similarities.

Agree on the sampling geniuses comment, both artists are
amazing in that field.

Shadow is responsible for two of my favourite albums ever
though(Endtroducing..... and Psyence Fiction).

And some of Amon Tobin's work I have trouble getting to
grips with as well.

That's a fucking tough one. I've been listening to DJ
Shadow since '96, I just discovered Amon Tobin last year so
I have to go with Shadow. But tobin is so good! How can I
compare supermodified and endtroducing when they are two of
the very few electronic albums on which every track
is amazing.

I´ve got most of the amon tobin records, and most of dj
shadows and i have to say that dj shadow is better imo. Amon
tobin is good though.

I go with DJ Shadow because I was disappointed with "Out
From Outwhere" ( think its called that...).

I was disapointed with Out from Outwhere too, actually...
but overall, I go with Amon Tobin, all of his previous
albums knock my mucker futhin' socks off, every time. His
music is so cool, it doesn't even sound like he's trying.
You can picture him kicking back in a smoky studio smokin' a
cigar.

Yeah, I ought to give Supermodified a look. Otherwise,
Endtroducing is just rediculous.

wins.

become familiar with shadow immediately.

anyone with extensive knowledge of both artists immediately
becomes a better person. i think i read that in a buddhist
text somewhere.

Buddha knows what he's talking about. He's meditating with
Natureland in the background as we speak.

my advice to anyone who has said that they know of one but
not the other is: learn about the other... you won't be
disappointed...

i'd say i prefer shadow more, but Amon is quaht nahs...

i remember someone calling Amon Tobin Dj Shadow on acid in a
past thread.. (maybe ill dig it up, probably not.. bleh)

lately i'd have to save i prefer Amon Tobin to Dj Shadow,
but Midnight in a Perfect World still gives me shivers

they both do not get enough discussion here though!

I really like how Tobin doesn't really throw filler tracks
onto his albums. It's very rare, they all get the same
treatment of serious work and dark samples and the whole
"Tobin" sound. It's kind of unique, there's always some
sort of similar eery effect in the background, very dark,
and in the track there's always a "moment" where you'll find
a sample string work standing over the rest of the track :)
