Last Film You Saw

Just saw raising victor vargas this afternoon, and liked it
a lot. There's some obvious points of comparison with larry
clark's "kids" but it's a much lighter film on the whole,
though no less enjoyable. So how was the last film y'all
saw?

Cube 2 and Life of David Gale both recommended.

the life of david gale

i liked it alot actually. David Gale is this guy who's very
much against the death penalty. And the film is about a
reporter interviewing him whilst he's in deathrow himself
(one week before his execution), after having been acused of
raping and murdering one of his best friends.

It made some good points, and the ending was very shocking.

surrounded,

I thought it was one of the more plausible films I'd see
recently. So many films just get too silly with the
ridiculous plotlines and such, whereas I thougt it was quite
believable.

well... maybe. I certainly believed it all whilst i was
watching it (for some reason i also thought it was based on
a true story, until i watched the extras on the dvd).

But when you think about it some more... i dunno, someone
would have to believe in something really strong to
go that far just to prove his point.

Very impressive all the same though. I watched it yesterday,
and was thinking about it all of today.

I've made myself a resolution that i'll never see another
film composed by focus group surveys. Going to watch
spririted away soon though i think, and maybe the life of
david gale as well if it's as good as y'all say.

Antz.

CGI animated film from 1998.

it's pretty good. it's also casts an appropriate message for
times like these.

manhattan - recommended, but i prefer woody allen's husbands
& wives which he made years later. it has similar ideas but
is much more cohesive as a story and more involving.
manhattan is funnier though.

it amazes me how woody allen can make new york films and
cast no black people

I watched Point Break on TBS the other day, Keanu Reeves
playing a cop named Johnny Utah, infiltrating a surfer
clique that he suspects of being bank robbers... stupid on
paper, AWESOME in execution.

one-liners so I was satisfied.

I just borrowed the Alien boxset off my mom. Watched the
first one last night after seeing Aliens a few nights before
on TV (this prompted my borrowing the box set). Alien is a
little slower/dryer although more artistically done courtesy
of Ridley Scott while Aliens is more rock em' sock em' ala
James Cameron, although this makes for a movie that is less
intellectually stimulating yet still pretty good. If I had
my way I would like to see elements of both .. the slower
2001ish shots of Alien with Aliens slightly faster pace and
better special fx. Next on my list is Alien 3 directed by
David Fincher which may very well give me what I need.

Equilibrium
And my, this movie is a FUCKING JOKE - I have never in my
entire life seen a movie this remotely stupid.

The cover states:
This movie ride on the waves of The Matrix, and not only
that, it far exceeds The Matrix.

What a load of horse shit!!!!

i watched a chinese movie last night called "shower"

it was really good. strange, but good.

basically about a guy who returns home to visit his father
and retarded brother who live/work at a traditional chinese
bath house.

sort of a family conflict / comedy / philosophical film.

sort of..

you know what really gets me about that movie? almost the
entire thing is fiction. i mean fiction within fiction. the
movie is basically the false story that soze is feeding the
cop about everything that happened. right? he was getting
all those ideas from items on the bulletin board and
surrounding objects in the room, etc.
i think it's a great movie, i've just never quite gotten
over that aspect of it.
