is your nick your first choice?

offline nacmat on 2003-09-22 08:10 [#00873253]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker

my nick in most of the internet places I visit and log in
is nacmat, but sometimes I cannot use nacmat cos it is
already chosen... (strange btw) so this made me think...
maybe people when they enter this place try to get a cool
nick (aphex related or whatever) but they cant as they are
already being used... so maybe they actual name is the
result of second or third choices.

why do I ask this? well... for example any nick consisting
on an autechre or aphex track name, imagine I want to join
the MB and I love the track "piezo" it is very probable that
it is already in use.

so my question is:
did you have to make a second (or more) choice to get your
nick here?

i wanted my name to be the same as it was in v4:
titsworth courier. it's too long tho. otherwise i
don't really care. i use howisya elsewhere. they're both
silly.

signed in. So I ended up with this silly name :P

I didn't have to make a second try on here - and to be
honest, I regret ever choosing the nick nlogax.

Never thought I'd spend this much time here..

I see no mortsto in here, so maybe his account was deleted
or maybe you just made a wrong step while registering

means nothing, honestly. i could make up an explanation but
it'd be just me funning around. i just like how it sounds. i
stole it from someone who used it for a few weeks in 1993 or
1994 and never since.

I used to be orange dust or od or sumn.

Usually I wanna be called od, but two letters is too short
so I whack a coupla of plusses there and end up with OD++ or
some shit.

I put stp cloak onto my name as when I registered here I was
in the process of a kind of game of trying to confuse these
people into thinking I was this other guy so I used his name
a lot. Step Cloak.
I even made tracks under his ane and stuff, it was a lot of
fun.

back in the early '90s i used to frequent
DC/Maryland/Virginia dial-up BBS's. this is where i got used
to talking to people on the computer. the people at the time
were totally crazy. there's a big punk rock movement in this
area and it was even stronger and weirder at the time. most
of the people i talked to were in high school and a lot of
them knew each other. anyway, there were two particularly
crazy people: AUgDOg (short for Auggie Doggie, named after
the Hannah Barbera cartoon) and Ninja-Man Bob. NMB for a few
weeks changed his name to Titsworth Courier, which is a name
so funny that it always stuck with me. i used it briefly
playing Quake in 1999 then again here on aphextwin.nu in
2001. i like it, it feels like i'm poking fun at myself by
using it.

No, not even the first name I used here. I didn't plan on
sticking around so I just replaced the A in Aphex and the X

it. To be honest this is the only place on the internet I
have to use some sort of name, I couldn't think of one, I
was listening to the Braindance Coincidence and thought
braindance was a bit of a knob name so I reversed it.

I used "tek" back in the v4 days, but I had a 2 year stretch
of being off the net, things have changed since then, and I
like refund a lot better

whenever I play a game and have to enter my name in, I
always make up some cool original name, but they only
represent THAT character in THAT game, I'd feel silly if I
choose the same name all the time for different characters
in different games,

you'd be surprised how often the name "ambsace" is taken,
