how long should a electronical song last ?
a bit weird question, but not necesary stupid.
i mean the average song length of a pop song is definately
3.00 - 3.15.

how does it look with electronica ? i want to skip ambient
because they are almost always very long, everyone knows
why.

and, second question: is there any song you would want to be
longer or shorter ??

If I look at a track length and it's 2.5-3.5 minutes, I
light up inside. If I see 5 or over, there's a 75% chance
I'll be bored of that song after the 4th minute, unless it
does something special. It usually doesn't.

When Jarworski bought Plaid's 'Not For Threes', he
immediately thought 'Seph' was too short. "Damn." Jarworski
thought to himself. "It's too damn good to be that short, if
only it was longer!". A few months later, he got Plaid's
Peel Session disk, and masturbated all over the carpet!

you lie on the carpet, masturbate, then move to a different
spot on the carpet, masturbate, move to a different spot yet
again and so on and so on..?

he also has a dial on his butt like a sprinkler, so you can
just lie him in the middle of the room and he pretty much
covers the lot

these tracks have perfect songlengths:
mogwai - hunted by a freak
gescom - leritue (gibber mix)

and finally, vletrmx21.
listen to these and find out what they're doing right.

John Cage's ''As Slowly as Possible'' is a bit too long for
my tastes.

The optimum length for a song is 17 minutes. For example,
Klingklang (17:36) by kraftwerk on the '2'ep. In my
experience 17 minutes is long enough to allow for brilliant
progressions, but any longer and it ruins it all.

Only 1 song on an lp/ep should be this long, except on a
double lp where it is allowable for 2 or maybe 3 in an
extreme situation. Failure to comply with these guidelines
will probably result in good results also!

best answer so far

what about the 60 minutes of the track "mother" by goldie?
is it too long or not?

never heard that track, nac...

i love the 20 minutes tracks of godspeed, or the lifeforms
album that for me is one song each cd...

and i think goon gumpas is the perfect length... like a good
short fairytale...

I defy anyone not to agree after listening to "valentine
suite" by collesium! prog rock at its best baby! think of
classical music as well, that goes on for ages (or does it
just seem like that!) no, classical is mostly great. think
of bach, most of his better organ pieces are like 10 mins
long at least!!!!seriously, long songs are the way to go.
