so - we always talk about favourite games, but never really
characters or genres or such blah blah... so what video game
bosses were pretty memorable for you? This topic came to me
last night when i was fighting Dark Dragon in Shining Force
- a stellar battle indeed.

Shining Force - Dark Dragon
Shining Force II - The Kraken
Landstalker - Mir
Final Fantasy - KEFKA!!
Contra - NES inside the alien fighting the heart, one of the
first bosses i ever saw
Legend of Zelda - Ganon
Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Ganondorf/Ganon
Mario 64 - Boswer
Phantasy Star 4 - The eternal Darkness
Street Fighter II - Vega (known as M.Bison in the states)

He was known as M.Bison here too (UK).

Vega is the guy with the mask and the claw... and the
skyhigh annoyance level.

i didn't like Ganon in Zelda (be it Ocarina Of Time or Wind
Waker).... in OOT the camera was problematic... in Wind
Waker it was ok, but a bit annoying at times (the 3rd form
of 'Alter Ganon', the speeding snake you have to shoot in
the tail) was mostly shooting at random for me!

i definetly agree with on the metal gear part. on sons of
liberty, when you fight all the rays....holy shit....i mean
holy shit. no boss is as fun to fight as they are. metal
hear one had some cool bosses. fighting raven with the
nikita in the freezer was definetly awesome. theres so many
in metal gear. i have all the silent hill games and one is
still my favorite. ive beaten it 7 times. i have the
katana, rock drill, and chainsaw. i own that game. i want
to figure out how to use the flauros stone, though. ive
read a lot of different things on it, but im still unsure of
its purpose. i beat silent hill 3 in 2 days. my game play
time was 5 hours. it was a little to easy but i haven't
beaten on 'extra new game' mode yet so maybe thats where the
surprises are. man i gotta get it back from my friend
today...

the flauros must be used at five different locations - it is
used to gain some sort of raygun of sorts - you need it to
gain the secret fifth ending, which is basically just a
humorous bonus for those who think they've gotten everything
in the game. i don't remember the five spots, but i'm sure
you can find out about them online.

my fave ending for sh2 was the rebirth - so cool. and yes,
fighting all those rays in mgs2 was fucking badass.

yeah i remember reading about that. the first time i played
SH, my dad and i beat it in 12 hours. i got it down to 3
and a half hours now though. the boss fight at the end of
return to castle wolfenstein was wicked. did you play it?

offline Oddioblender from Fort Worth, TX (United States) on 2003-09-17 10:35 [#00867308]
Points: 9601 Status: Lurker

sadly i never got to the end - that game's predecessor is
THE definition of first-person shooters though. seriously,
if you look in a dictionary, and look up FPS, you'll see a
pic from wolfenstein. =D

i'm actually not much of an FPS fan really, but i do respect
any game that really defines or redefines a genre. so many
games used wolfenstein's style that it's cliche to me now.
few developers make an FPS that's worth a crap these days
other than ID or Valve.

have you played soul calibur 2? i played it on gamecube,
but i really want to play it on xbox cuz ima super huge fan
of spawn.

offline Oddioblender from Fort Worth, TX (United States) on 2003-09-17 10:46 [#00867327]
Points: 9601 Status: Lurker

yes - i own soul calibur 2 on gamecube - and i am highly
enjoying it. i'm only missing one character (lizardman) and
about 11 of the goofy weapons (the ones that make the sound
effects)

thank god namco didn't fuck it up like they did tekken 4.

sadly, i'm not enjoying it as much as i could be, because i
have few friends, and those i do have usually don't want me
around - which doesn't bother me.

I think the most rewarding boss fight I ever had was in
Super Mario 3, when Bowser crashed through the brick
floor... man, I was euphoric!

I also loved that huge walking Robotik at the end of Sonic
2... my favorite Sonic game ever.

And whoever said Flashman, good call. I always loved
fighting him... made me feel really powerful. Blam blam blam
dead.
