Liam sure did do some seriously good beats with Experience and the next record too. The Prodigy sure are cheesy in Experience but darn good beats. Less cheese with "Music For The Jilted Generation" and still my favourite Prodigy record. Then again I never listened to The Prodigy again after that.

Personally think Fat Of The Land is the best Prodigy album, but cunts. Experience is excellent rave cheese skill. Didn't quite take my brain to any previously avoided dimensions, but it prepared me for my later entries.

Yeah I totally agree. I mean musically it is totally naff but I know it so well and it just classic. But "Music For
The Jilted Generation" is quality music wise and definite maturity from the hands in the air rave of Experience. I've never really heard Fat of the Land I'm sure its good but I just lost interest in The Prodigy I guess but really they've always been a pretty good band. I remember seeing them at their serious peak at Phoenix back in 95 or 96 and they seriously rocked, mind you Stereolab were ace too and so was Nightmares on Wax.

I think if he wanted to be a serious beatmaster again like he was in the early days Liam probably could do it. It just amazes me how consistenly funky The Prodigy were. Never really thought about it until I heard Experience again.

If anyone didnt buy that Dirtchamber Sessions CD I reccomend it, although its nothing like Prodigy. More like DJ Shadow but much much more blatant sampling... breakbeat sex pistols!

'Music For The Jilted Generation' was a really revolutionary album for me personally... frankly, it expanded my musical horizons and opened the world of electronic music to me almost ten years ago. so that's already history, but i still consider this one to be their best... 'Experience' was rather good, positive and cheerful stuff with good beats, i agree... but my vote goes to 'Music...' i have great respect for Liam's work.

Experience is one of my favorites! Rate it up there with SAW85-92.
Hated everything after Jilted Generation, for sure... Just think, Liam wrote all his best stuff on a simple keyboard sequencer - Never even touched a computer atall for the first two albums.

First two albums are excellent. FotL is not only embarrasing in some places, the breaks on it are incredibly unoriginal. Was very disappointed with it.
Looking forward to see what they're doing next, though...

I remember Liam Howlett use to dispise Aphex. I wonder if he still feels that way. I guess he probably saw him as a threat. I wish Aphex would outsell The Prodigy long term or get a big single that would settle it. He he he.

it was more that he didn't want to be linked with experimental pish posh like aphex twin and that type of stuff. he felt that prodigy had more in common with hip hop rather than aphex twin.

I think Liam Howlett got pissed off cos he had commercial pressure to do all that embarassing FOTL type stuff.
It's a shame cos he's clearly one of the most talented guys in electronic music - Aphex has certainly outlasted the Prodigy by a long way! Best way to kill off your career is to appeal to the fickle pop crowd - Instantly dates all your work and makes it embarassing to listen to IMO.

What does FOTL stand for out of interest? Liam is definitely a master of beats and build up. I think listening to Experience reminds you how good The Prodigy were. Shame Aphex and The Prodigy never collaborated in the early days. With Liam's excellent capability to create seriously funky beats and Richard's psychedelic musical skillz it could have been a great combo. Still I think pretty unlikely. Both are individuals and really people don't like to tred on other people's toes.

You can't take FOTL seriously - Imagine seeing someone drive past you blareing "I'm the firestarter!" out their car!? It would be sooo cringe-inducing.
hehe - It's music for irrate teenagers IMO. The Prodigy did kill themselves with that album - I think it's too late for them - Although I wouldn't suprised if Liam has been releasing under pseudonyms - He did it with Earthbound 1&2 on white label back in '94.

yeah 'weather experience' is fucking awesome.
experience was definately the best prodigy album in my opinion. compared to that, 'breathe' and 'firestarter' are quite shithouse, and the recent choon 'babys got a temper' was alot worse. it's pretty obvious that he's aiming for the chart crowd now.
the video clips are pretty stupid too, trying to getting attention by being "controversial" so the kiddies will say KeWL!~@.
it really is a pity, coz when liam was paying attention to the music, it was fucking awesome, was my favorite for like a year.
anybody remember the MOD file of 'charly' that went around back in the BBS days? =] I had that MOD before i even knew who the prodigy were. also had a MOD of 'chime' years and years before i ever heard of orbital.
