depends on what you use a web browser for browser.
if you need an email client as well as a browser then download mozilla 1.5b, if you only want a browser then go firebird without a doubt

Mozilla is more stable and has fewer annoyances, but it's not as small and efficient as Firebird.

mozilla's web browser is based on the firebird code. so, as of version 1.4, that peice of mozilla is very similar to it's little bro firebird... 'cept mozilla full has more preferences. but, it also has an email client, an HTML composer, and a chat client built in... so, it is substantially more bulky than firebird.
firebird has a grip of extentions that will add functionality if you need it, but it comes very minimal and bare bones... which is why i love it so.

I find Mozilla runs just fine on an older system, older being like a 233 mHz processor with 128 megs ram. You don't really notice any slowness except when you first open it - that takes a few seconds.

If you like Firebird better than Moz (like I do) then for mail you can use Thunderbird, which is a free mail client put out by them. It's awesome.

No, mozilla isn't based on firebird yet. That's due for some future release - see the mozilla roadmap.
You should use firebird instead of mozilla unless you need one of the other components of mozilla (mail, composer, etc). Thunderbird email is looking good, but it's not stable enough for me.
