So my brother interviewed this guy, and he got given a cd called "some of my best friends are djs", which i'm listening to now.
The music is really great... very jazzy. And i think it uses alot of samples from very old records, because somehow the music feels kinda "old".
But i'm really annoyed by all the talking :-/ There are just all kinds of voices in the music. Most of the time it sounds like some sort of presenter introducing each song, but there are also just random samples... damn... i think it's a shame really, because it just distracts from the music. It's not like when BOC use a vocal sample, and it becomes part of the song.
Well maybe i just need to hear it more often. Any thoughts on this? Am i crazy?

its just the kids style. have you ever listened to carpal tunnel syndrome? his stuff is really good, compared to around 95% of current turntablists. im actually quite into turntablism, and until you spend a few hours a week practising(perhaps you do, im in no position to tell(my frontal lobes havent reached telepathic levels(yet))).
erm yeah... unless you have tried your hand at turntablism you wont perhaps realise that he is very very skilled. there are so many little nice touches he does which have the technical ability of people like Qbert, but with the jazzyfunky ideas of squarepusher.
have a listen to his remix of coldcuts more beats and pieces and the emperors main course(available on ninjatune zen cuts compilation(a highly recomended album)).
I think its wrong to compare his vocal use to bocs, perhaps compare it to some non idm type stuff, since in most cases idm and kid koala can be incompatable, since most idm is computer processed, all sequenced sampled, contolled perfected to precision by machines controlled by humans not inrealtime(generally), wheres his analogue turntable decknology is realtime and has all the nuances associated with that, ie timing 'errors'.
In conclusion I would like to say listen to it more and you will indeed enjoy it (most probably). are you crazy? i have no idea, perhaps if you dont like any kid koala, otherwise probs not.

I downloaded Basin Street Blues on recommendation and it did nothing but annoy me :/
I have tried a couple of tracks from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and I thought they were okay..

i love carpal tunnel syndrome. his best work is a track called "emperors main course" which feature on ninja tune's "xen cuts" compilation.
theres also a live version of "drunk trumpet" on there, too.
i agree with tits, i think kid koala is a fun artist, however, i also agree with what xammax was saying, because basin st blues seemed a bit weak when i heard it.

some of my best friends are djs is crap. the more kid koala does, the worse it sounds! his old tracks are better. at the tim e of my first post, I had only heard a couple of tracks from the new album, now ive heard them all and i am dissapointed.
I think its the old 'use a deck as a trumpet' thingy which works once, but he is trying to turn a deck into an instrument, when clearly it isnt an instrument.

oh and if anyone goes 'yes it is' or tries to argue... a turntable is not an instrument. I have been doing scratch DJing for over 5 years now and know the limitations of turntables, as well as the good bits.
a turntable is a music utility, it is more like a human-synched dynamic rhythm device than an instrument.

well thanks, i will. i'm sure with the experience you have you can rightfully voice your opinion on his methods. i have never really tried scratching, so i'm going by what i hear. so far i like it!
though i do agree with you...a turntable is NOT an instrument.
